Best 3 MLB Player Prop Bets for July 30
1. Astros SP Hunter Brown 7+ Strikeouts (-120)
The Astros will send 25-year-old Hunter Brown to the rubber, looking to bounce back after allowing the Pirates to finish the come-from-behind win in the 9th inning on Monday. Houston’s pitching staff has disappointed in 2024, but Brown has shown flashes, and we have backed him recently. I wanted to back the Astros lineup, which will be up against left-hander Baily Falter, but the sportsbook has yet to post his lines. I’m settling with Brown in this spot.
The right-hander has had at least seven Ks in 6 of his last 11 starts. Brown has blossomed this season and has the third-lowest ERA (2.39 ERA) among all starting pitchers since May 11, behind only Paul Skenes (1.93 ERA) and Corbin Burnes (2.24 ERA).
MLB ERA leaders since May 11th:
Paul Skenes — 1.93
Corbin Burns — 2.24
Hunter Brown — 2.39
George Kirby — 2.47 #LetsGoBucs pic.twitter.com/9qekkowPJM— SkenesMuse (@PaulSkenesMuse) July 30, 2024
The Astros have quietly climbed into a tie for first in the AL West. They are certainly a team to watch at the deadline today.
Brown has a 103 Stuff+, even with a nightmare April. He’s introduced a sinker to his pitch arsenal, allowing him to throw the 4-seam fastball less often. He has had an excellent 25% strikeout rate since the start of June. I’m willing to trust him against a Pirates lineup that’s been finding ways to win games but still has the tenth-lowest batting average (.236) in the league since the All-Star break and the fourth-worst batting average (.226) in the league against righties.
Pittsburgh has struck out the fifth-most in MLB, has the sixth-highest Whiff %, and has the fifth-highest K %—Bank on Brown to fan at least seven Bucco bats. Include him in your MLB player prop bets tonight.

2. Royals SS Bobby Witt Jr. 2+ Total Bases (-162)
With our next MLB betting pick tonight, I’m fading the White Sox against the Royals. Kansas City will face Jonathan Cannon tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field. We’re backing the hottest hitter in the league in one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in the country against a struggling rookie. Bobby Witt Jr. has been on another planet this month. Only he and Aaron Judge reside in this extraterrestrial place! Witt Jr. would be running away with an AL MVP if it weren’t for Judge.

Witt Jr. and the Royals will face the 24-year-old rookie right-hander Cannon. He’s been inconsistent in 2024, ranking in the 36th percentile in xERA (4.32) and 14th percentile in xBA (.272), and is not missing bats. He made one start against the Royals in April, and Witt Jr. went 1 for 2 with a single.
Bobby Witt Jr. is a breakout star in 2024. Every fan wishes they could have him on their team, and every GM wishes they could build their franchise around this guy. He has the highest batting average in the league since the All-Star break (.575) and has more extra-base hits than he does swings-and-misses over this span!
If there’s one thing I’ve learned when MLB betting, it’s to ride hot streaks. You can play this up to 3 total bases if you don’t want to lay the juice. Witt Jr. has accomplished this in 6 of 10 games since the break and 13 of his last 22 games overall! I’ll be sipping the juice and taking over 1½ total bases, which he has reached in 8 of his previous 10 and 16 of 22! He’s exceeded this line in 7 of 11 meetings with the White Sox this season.

3. Giants SP Robbie Ray Over 7+ Strikeouts (-130)
This MLB prediction shouldn’t come as a surprise to you who have been following along this season. I’m always searching for ways to fade the Oakland Athletics, and tonight, I’m doing it again! First, I’ll credit Oakland, whose offense ranks first in wRC+ this month. That’s right. The Athletics have been the best overall offense in the entire league in July! They’ve been tremendous against lefties over this span, ranking second in ISO (.247%) and OPS (.894)! So, if they’ve been so good, why the fade?
Veteran left-hander Robbie Ray made his season debut against the Dodgers last week. He was lights out, throwing 5 shutout innings, and finished with 8 Ks! It was Ray’s first start since undergoing Tommy John last Spring, and he threw 86 pitches.

Ray is in his 11th big league season and has ranked above the 85th percentile in K% nearly every season. Oakland has struck out the second-most on the road. The A’s have benefited from playing the Angels 10 of their 22 games this month! This is important because the matchups with a terrible Angels pitching staff have tremendously skewed the A’s offensive numbers. Oakland still has the third-highest K % and the second-highest Whiff % in the league. I expect Ray to fan at least seven A’s hitters.
