2 Best MLB Player Props 8/28

1. Mariners SP Luis Castillo 7+ Strikeouts (-170)

I’m firing on a strikeout prop with our first MLB pick tonight. The Mariners continue to tumble in the AL Wild Card race and will send 31-year-old righty Luis Castillo to the bump in their series finale at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. Seattle boasts one of the best pitching staffs in the league, but Castillo has underperformed in 2024. However, his strikeout numbers have risen over the last month.

The right-hander hasn’t posted gaudy strikeout numbers compared to previous years. He finished with at least 7 Ks in 4 of his last 6 starts and five straight starts at home. He has a strong 35% strikeout percentage across 68 at-bats against Tampa’s projected lineup. A lineup that has struggled immensely since trading away Randy Arozarena and Isaac Parades.

Tampa’s offense has been terrible since the break, including the third-highest K % and second-lowest batting average. They have the most strikeouts in the league over the last week.

In this series, we have watched Logan Gilbert and Bryce Miller finish with 10 Ks against Tampa. Luis Castillo is lined up in this pitcher’s duel for a vintage performance. I’m trusting Castillo at BetUS Sportsbook.

Bet on Luis Castillo to Get 7+ Strikeouts (-170)

2. Cardinals SP Andre Pallante Under 3½ Strikeouts (-148)

If you’ve been following along with my MLB picks this season, you’ll know how rarely I like to take Unders. I’m firing on one with Andre Pallante on the mound against the Padres. The Padres bats have consistently been among the best in the bigs. Since the All-Star break, they have been third in wRC+ and batting average. They are the hottest team in the league, with a 26-9 record since the break.

They are trying to snatch the lead in the NL West from the Dodgers, and they don’t appear to be slowing down! The Padres have the lowest K% in the league and have been striking out even less over the last two weeks. Pallante has been terrific for St. Louis since his move to the starting rotation in May, but he’s not striking out many batters. His 8.8 K/BB% is in the 12th percentile. He is in just the 14th percentile in K and Whiff %.

He has finished above this line in 11 of 14 games as a starter, so there’s plenty of risk with this pick. Still, five consecutive starting pitchers have finished below this line against the Padres—Trust San Diego tonight to limit the strikeouts against Pallante.

Bet on Andre Pallante to Get Under 3½ Strikeouts (-148)
