The MLB trade deadline is officially in the rearview. There were several moves by contenders, but I wouldn’t categorize any transaction yesterday as a “blockbuster.” The calendar is about to flip to August, and every team has roughly 50 games remaining in the regular season.

Here are the best MLB player prop bets for Wednesday, each with the potential to boost your bankroll.

Best MLB Player Props 7/31/24

1. Red Sox SP Brayan Bello Over 6+ Strikeouts (-109)

Our first player prop pick comes from the Boston Red Sox’s and Seattle Mariners’ clash. Brayan Bello will toe the rubber for the Red Sox tonight at Fenway. This will be his 20th start of the year, and the 24-year-old is poised to improve closer to what the metrics suggest.

This is Bello’s third season in MLB after he made 28 starts for Boston last season. He has thrown well despite the poor overall numbers, and the righty has shown his ability to battle through challenging situations. His xERA is 4.68, his K-BB percentage is 13.6%, and his Stuff+ is 103. Bello has exceeded five strikeouts in 9 of his 19 outings. I’m willing to trust him against a Seattle lineup that’s been mediocre this season.

Bello has shown flashes this season he can be dominant. On July 9, at home against Oakland, he struck out 11.

The Mariners were active at the trade deadline. Most notably, they acquired Randy Arozarena from the Rays, but they are still striking out at an insane clip. Seattle has struck out the most in MLB and is on pace to break the record for the highest K rate in a season! They have the third-highest Whiff % and the highest K %.

Boston’s bullpen is relatively rested, so Alex Cora may not need to push Bello deep. Still, Bello has thrown at least five-plus innings in five consecutive starts. Bello’s slider has become a disgusting out-pitch for him this season. Expect him to continue to utilize that pitch and finish tonight’s game with at least six K’s. Include him in your MLB player prop bets tonight.

2. Nationals SP Mackenzie Gore Over 3+ Earned Runs (-150)

With our next MLB bet tonight, I’m fading Washington Nationals starting pitcher Mackenzie Gore. Washington will send the southpaw to the rubber against the Arizona Diamondbacks, looking to avoid the sweep. Gore was off to a strong start but has struggled a bit since the start of June. He has allowed more than two earned runs in five of his previous six starts.

The 25-year-old southpaw has been solid but is struggling to avoid hard contact, ranking in the 48th percentile in Hard-Hit %. I expect that trend to continue against the suddenly scorching-hot D-Backs veteran lineup. You may recall Gore was one of the key trade pieces that sent Juan Soto to San Diego at the time. Gore and CJ Abrams, who was also part of the deal, are budding stars in the league, but this is an excellent spot to fade the young left-hander on the road.

The Diamondbacks are heating up, winning 18 of their last 26 overall. The defending NL champs just defeated the Nats 17-0 last night!

They own one of the most talented lineups in MLB and are dangerous at Chase Field. The reigning National League champs will produce today against the left-hander at home, where they have scored the third-most runs in baseball. Ketel Marte is having another terrific season. He is flying under the radar and leading this team, batting .363 over the last month.

Gore pitched against Arizona on June 20 and allowed 4 runs on 9 hits. He’s leaning too much on his 4-seam fastball (55% of pitches thrown) for my liking.

Arizona has the highest batting average against southpaws this season at .280 and has scored the most runs against lefties in MLB (184). Over the last month, the D-Backs have been in the top five in nearly every offensive category, and that remains true when they are at home in the desert. Count on the Snakes to get the job done for us.
