The MLB schedule isn’t the best, with only nine games on tap because of a travel day for many squads, and the first game of the NFL season is tonight. Still, our consistently profitable MLB picks have been delivering results with a high success rate and are here to guide you through. Ensure you’re well-informed before making your MLB bets, and get ready for another thrilling day of MLB action!

Top 2 Best MLB Player Props 9/5

1. Marlins SP Adam Oller Over 2½ Earned Runs

The Miami Marlins have been eliminated from playoff contention and are looking to rebuild again this offseason. The Marlins will continue their homestand against Philadelphia, which will go to South Beach to begin a four-game set this weekend. I like the Phillies’ chances to jump all over Miami in the series opener and continue its momentum at the plate.

Miami will send 29-year-old right-hander Adam Oller to the mound. Oller has made three starts since getting called up from Triple-A in August. This is his third stint in the big leagues after spending the previous two seasons in the Athletics organization. Before this season, he was 3-9 with a 7.09 ERA in 28 appearances. His first outing was shaky, allowing five runs in 4.2 innings against Arizona, but he has been serviceable in his last two starts against the Cubs and Giants. I expect regression tonight.

In 2022 and 2023, Oller was in the bottom 15 percentile or lower in nearly every significant category, including xBA and xERA. Meanwhile, he will face a Phillies team that is a half-game behind the Dodgers for the best record in the league. I expect them to keep steamrolling their way to the playoffs.

The Phillies are once again mashing at the plate. They have the fourth-highest batting average in the league (.258) and are tied with the Red Sox with the fifth-highest OPS (.751). Philadelphia is third in wRC+ (123) over the last two weeks. Over the previous two weeks, Bryce Harper (.333), Brandon Marsh (.350) and J.T. Realmuto (.311) have been on fire, and Kyle Schwarber (.360, 4 HRs) has been on a tear over the last week!

Harper left Wednesday’s game early after being hit by a pitch, and while I would love to have him in the lineup, I still trust Philly to put at least three early runs on the board against Oller!

2. Tigers SP Casey Mize Under 3½ Strikeouts

If you’ve been following along with my MLB picks this season, you’ll know how rarely I like to take Unders, but the San Diego Padres keep delivering these for us. I’m firing on one again with Casey Mize on the mound against San Diego.

The Padres bats have consistently been among the best in the bigs. Since the All-Star break, they have been third in wRC+ and second in batting average (.273). They are the hottest team in the league, with a 30-12 record since the break following an exciting walk-off win on Wednesday.

They are trying to chase down the Dodgers in the NL West, and they don’t appear to be slowing down! The Padres have the lowest K% in the league and have been striking out even less over the last two weeks. Mize has made 17 starts this season for Detroit, and he’s not striking out many batters. The 27-year-old right-hander is in the 9th percentile in K and 19th in Whiff %.

Mize was the former No. 1 overall pick in 2018 but hasn’t lived up to expectations. He’s dealt with multiple injuries over the last two seasons, which have derailed his trajectory. He has finished below this line in eight of 17 games.

Nine of the last 12 starting pitchers have finished below this line against the Padres. Trust San Diego tonight to limit the strikeouts against Mize. Looking for a good MLB player prop? Trust San Diego to stay hot.
