2 Best MLB Player Prop Bets for Sept. 10
1. Royals SP Seth Lugo Over 5½ Hits Allowed
The Bronx Bombers were out in full effect last night in the series opener with the Royals, and I’m going right back to them tonight. New York holds a 1.5-game lead in the AL East over the Orioles and is eager to put some space between their rival. New York has the best record in the AL (83-61). The Yankees have a +128 run differential, the second-best mark in the bigs (Brewers, +134). The Royals came into this series with plenty of momentum, but the Yankee bats dominated on Monday.
The Royals have been terrific in 2024, but their rotation is due for regression. Bobby Witt Jr. is enjoying a breakout season, but I expect the deep Yankee lineup to do damage once again. New York will face veteran righty Seth Lugo on Tuesday. The Yanks own the fourth-highest batting average in the league (.259) and are first in wRC+ and OPS (.792) against right-handers.
The 34-year-old righty has posted strong numbers in 2024, but Lugo’s underlying metrics suggest he should fall off a bit down the stretch. Lugo spent the first half of the season in the AL Cy Young race but was never considered a Cy Young-caliber arm through his first eight seasons. So, we can assume it was an outlier.
Lugo is in the 56th percentile in xERA and 40th in xBA. He has allowed at least six hits in five of his last six starts. Lugo has struggled more against lefties this season, and this is key because Aaron Boone can load the lineup with lefty bats. Last night’s lineup featured seven lefties, and the two righties were Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres. Austin Wells is quietly climbing in the AL Rookie of the Year odds.

Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Anthony Rizzo can all be in tonight’s lineup. New York also called up their switch-hitting top prospect, Jasson Dominguez, yesterday. I expect the Bombers to keep rolling at home. I’m trusting New York to stay hot for my first MLB prediction.

Bet on Seth Lugo to Go Over 5½ Hits Allowed (-112)
2. Mariners SP George Kirby Under 5½ Strikeouts
If you’ve followed along with my MLB picks this season, you’ll know how rarely I like to take Unders, but the San Diego Padres keep delivering these for us. I’m firing on one again with George Kirby on the mound against San Diego. I rarely fade captain Kirby, but the Padres lineup can be trusted.
The Padres bats have consistently been among the best in the bigs. Since the All-Star break, they have been third in wRC+ and second in batting average (.272). They are the hottest team in the league, with a 31-15 record since the break. They have dropped three of their last four entering this series in Seattle, but they continue to limit strikeouts.

— San Diego Padres (@Padres) September 3, 2024
The Padres have the lowest K% in the league and have been striking out even less over the last two weeks. We’re getting a fair line here on Kirby, who is tied with the 20th-most strikeouts in the AL. The 26-year-old right-hander is in the 54th percentile in K and 43rd in Whiff %.
Kirby can be a future Cy Young winner, but 16 of the last 17 starting pitchers have finished below this line against the Padres! Trust San Diego tonight to limit the strikeouts against Kirby. Looking for a good MLB player prop? Trust the Padres to stay hot.
Bet on George Kirby to Go Under 5½ Strikeouts
