MLB Player Props March 28: Bet Jung, Carroll to Hit

While the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres already played two games, Thursday is still viewed by many fans and those who bet online as Opening Day. The games between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies have been rained out but there are still plenty of games on the schedule.

The Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Guardians, and the Minnesota Twins are the only road teams listed by the MLB betting lines as favorites on Thursday.

With this being the first game of most of the teams, there are plenty of prop options for ace pitchers, with Cleveland’s Shane Bieber and Zac Gallen among the hurlers to keep an eye on. Bieber is 10th at +3000 in the odds to win the American League Cy Young award while Gallen is tied for fourth at +1200 in the National League Cy Young odds.

After strong rookie seasons that “included a trip to the World Series, Texas third baseman Josh Jung and Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll could be popular MLB player prop options this season.

Here’s a look at some betting options going into the first of four playoff games in the divisional round of the playoffs.

1. Rangers 3B Josh Jung 2+ Runs and RBIs (+181)

Josh Jung has never faced Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks but, a season ago, the Texas third baseman was 7-for-22 with a double, two home runs, and four RBIs in the first six games as he got his rookie campaign off to a strong start.

He was pretty quiet in the April series against the Cubs in 2023 but look for Jung to get his second season off and running even if he was limited to three games during spring training.

2. Guardians Pitcher Shane Bieber 7+ Strikeouts (+110)

Shane Bieber allowed seven hits and struck out 16 in 13.1 innings in four spring training starts. Now he is facing an Oakland team that finished last in the majors with a .223 batting average a year ago.

Bieber tossed six scoreless innings in his first start of the 2023 season and he had seven strikeouts in six innings in his lone appearance against Oakland last season, so roll with Bieber to look every bit the part of a top American League Cy Young Award favorite according to our sportsbook odds.

3. Red Sox IF Trevor Story to Have 2+ Hits (+298)

Trevor Story’s second season with the Red Sox was a bit of a disaster as he appeared in just 43 games in an injury-plagued season. He hit .203 with three home runs in 158 at-bats.

This is the season when he gets to prove his gaudy offensive numbers in his first six MLB seasons were not simply because he played his home game in the hitting heaven known as Coors Field.

Story hit .380 with 10 extra-base hits in 20 games in spring training so he looks ready to get going, even though he is 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in his career against Seattle starter Luis Castillo.

4. Diamondbacks OF Corbin Carroll to have 2+ Hits (+181)

It is easy to forget that Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll’s tremendous rookie season began by going hitless in three at-bats in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2023 season opener.

Carroll had a solid but unspectacular showing in spring training with a .315 batting average, three doubles, and two triples.

Carroll displayed the ability to play his best when the lights were the brightest and opening the 2024 season against the Colorado pitching staff shouldn’t be quite as challenging as beginning 2023 against the Dodgers.

There are always plenty of prop options for Carroll, who can rack up the stolen bases, hits, and extra-base hits.

5. Diamondbacks P Zac Gallen to Allow 2+ Earned Runs (-139)

Zac Gallen had a tough start to the 2023 season as he allowed 13 hits, 10 runs, and two home runs in 10.2 innings in his first two starts.

The last time he faced the Rockies, Gallen allowed five hits, no runs, and struck out seven in six innings of work. He has had three scoreless stints against the Rockies over the last two seasons, but he also struggled at times against the Rockies in the 2022 season. So don’t look for Gallen to get through his first start of the season without giving up at least a couple of runs.
