Best MLB Player Props 7/24/24

1. Red Sox SP Nick Pivetta 6+ Strikeouts (-218)

I’m always looking to fade the struggling Rockies, and we have a top spot to do it today at Coors Field. Get this one in because the first pitch is scheduled for 3:10 pm EST! Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta is coming off three straight gems, and I think he replicates it again this afternoon. I’m on board with trusting the 31-year-old right-hander who made the move from the bullpen to the starting rotation one year ago last July.

Pivetta has made 15 starts this season and has a 3.87 ERA (3.55 xERA) and a 1.09 WHIP. He has exceeded this line in eight of his outings so far. He has a 135 Stuff+ and 109 Pitching+ rating, which is the highest in MLB among starting pitchers!

Since moving to the starting rotation last summer, he ranks fourth in the league in strikeout rate among starters. His pitch arsenal of velocity and movement is comparable to that of Trevor Bauer and Justin Verlander in the 2018 season, where each was a finalist in AL Cy Young voting!

Pitching in Coors Field is never easy; Tanner Houck showed us that on Monday, but we must trust Pivetta’s stuff. The Rockies have had the second-most strikeouts in MLB over the previous 30 days. Colorado is tied with Oakland with the second-highest K % and has the highest Whiff %. I expect Pivetta to punch out at least six Rockies today.

2. Guardians SP Tanner Bibee 7+ Strikeouts (+122)

The Cleveland Guardians continue to churn out terrific arms. Tanner Bibee was extremely consistent in his rookie year last season, allowing three earned runs or less in 16 straight starts. He finished last season with a 2.98 ERA. He struggled to start 2024, but he’s turned things around. The 25-year-old right-hander is 8-4 with a 3.58 ERA (3.49 xERA) and a 21.1% K/BB %.

Since May 1, Bibee is up to fifth in K/9 at 11.41, behind only Tyler Glasnow, Garrett Crochet, Dylan Cease and Chris Sale. His last start came against the Padres, who strike out the fewest in the league, and he dropped to 12th in K/9 at 10.25 entering today. Bibee has a 102 Stuff+ this season, inside the top 30 in MLB among qualified pitchers. His underlying metrics are backing it up. He is in the 60th percentile in Whiff % and 82nd in K %. He’s flying under the radar.

He finished with 8 strikeouts on July 10 in his last start against Detroit. For my MLB betting pick, I’ll gladly take the plus-money. Bibee has an opportunity to post a terrific line against the Tigers—Bank on Bibee again tonight.

3. Rangers SP Nathan Eovaldi 6+ Strikeouts (-152)

Time flies, as Eovaldi is a veteran in his 15th big league season! The right-hander has dealt with injuries several times in 2024 but is back to full strength. He’s coming off a poor outing against the Orioles after the break, but I expect him to bounce back nicely tonight against the White Sox. He has exceeded this line in 10 of his 16 healthy outings. Eovaldi is in the 64th percentile in Whiff % and 88th percentile in Chase %.

The White Sox are dead last in wRC+. Chicago’s lineup ranks sixth in K %. The White Sox are tied with the most strikeouts since the break. Place a bet online on Eovaldi to put away at least six hitters from the Southside tonight.
