MLB Prop Bets Today: Burger Top Choice on Menu

Week two of the MLB season is in full swing, and we continue to see a lot of offense compared to previous seasons. Sure, the Houston Astros pitched 2024’s first no-hitter on Monday night, but overall, scoring is up across the league. With an average of 5.05 runs per game, MLB hitters have raised the bar from 4.62 runs per game at this time last year. With the weather warming up, I expect the bats to continue putting in work and the following guys to cash picks for MLB props on Tuesday.

MLB Prop Bets Today: Burger Top Choice on Menu

1. Tuesday MLB Prop: Jake Burger 2+ Total Bases from Hits (+100)

Facing a challenging start to the season with an 0-5 record, the Miami Marlins are eager for a win, relying on the prowess of their leading batters to make a breakthrough at home. Tuesday could be their chance as they go up against Tyler Anderson of the Los Angeles Angels, who had a tough time last year with a 5.52 xFIP. The encounter seems particularly favorable for the Marlins’ formidable power hitter, Jake Burger. With MLB odds at +100, Burger’s player prop to touch 2+ bases is a bet online that is too hard to pass up.

Since his acquisition by the Marlins, Burger has shown a minuscule walk rate of 2.0% and demonstrated significant power and a hard-hit rate of 42.1% against left-handed pitchers. Given Anderson’s heavy reliance on four-seam fastballs last season — nearly 40% of his pitches — Burger’s .787 xSLG against left-handed four-seamers stands out.

Positioned strategically in the Marlins’ lineup, Burger is poised to capitalize on his matchup with Anderson and take advantage of the Angels’ relatively thin bullpen. Burger is a perfect choice to add to our MLB picks for Tuesday.

2. MLB Prop: Alex Bregman 2+ Total Bases from Hits (+136)

In his 19 at-bats against Toronto starter Jose Berrios, Houston’s Alex Bregman has five hits, four of which resulted in extra bases. This performance contributed to Bregman’s significant .934 OPS against Berrios. Moreover, Berrios seems to struggle more when pitching away from home, evidenced by a lower .500 winning percentage on the road compared to a .615 at home. Additionally, his ERA suffers on the road, spiking to 4.71, starkly contrasting his 3.53 at home.

Berrios’ record against the Astros further reflects challenges, showcasing a 4.24 ERA over nine starts and a 1.393 WHIP, which indicate trouble keeping runners off base. On the other hand, Bregman has demonstrated remarkable consistency and skill, as indicated by his placement in the 77th percentile for xwOBA last season, which shows his ability to generate high-quality at-bats.

Bregman’s knack for making contact is further highlighted by his elite standing in strikeout rate and whiff percentage, ranking in the 96th and 98th percentiles, respectively.

The Astros got off to a putrid start, but Ronel Blanco’s no-hitter on Monday has to light a fire under these guys. I expect a bit of game all around on Tuesday at the plate, with Bregman leading the charge. With Vegas betting odds at +136, this is one of Tuesday’s board’s most valuable player props.
