Picks, Prediction for Nationals vs Dodgers on Tuesday, May 30

Teams at Opposite Ends

The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers will meet for their second game of the series with both teams in separate places in their respective divisions. The Nationals remain in last place in the National League East after dropping their second straight while the Dodgers sit atop the NL West.

Though the Nationals will be hoping to bounce back from the series-opening loss, MLB odds strongly favor the Dodgers.

Nationals: Offense Stalls

Washington dropped its second consecutive game after its offense failed to show up yet again.

The Nationals have scored just three runs combined in their last two games after going for 16 runs in the previous two games before that.

Washington finished with one run and six hits in the series opener to the Dodgers, marking its 11th loss in 14 games against Los Angeles.

The Nationals are third in the league with a .264 batting average, but after their recent outings, it’s better to see how they start the game before looking at some MLB live betting odds.

Dodgers Pick Up the Pace

After a slow start, Los Angeles was able to get its offense off the ground to earn the win over Washington on Monday.

The Dodgers were scoreless through the first four innings, but their six-run fifth inning was enough to grab the win.

Los Angeles was led by J.D. Martinez, who had a three-run homer, while Freddie Freeman also recorded two RBIs off a double.

Though Freeman finished 1-for-4 at the plate, it was enough to extend his hitting streak to 18, and there’s a strong chance he gets 19 on Tuesday for those making MLB picks.

Starting Pitchers

Jake Irvin (1-2, 5.32 ERA) vs Tony Gonsolin (2-1, 1.82)

Irvin makes his sixth start for Washington and just his second away from home. He’s thrown 19 strikeouts and given up 15 runs in 22 innings, but his one recorded win has come on the road, where he had five strikeouts and allowed zero runs in 6⅓ innings.

Gonsolin is coming off a game where he allowed two home runs in 5⅔ innings. However, in the previous two games, he pitched 10 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. Gonsolin is also 1-0 at home and the Dodgers should have the upper hand on the mound.

Nationals vs Dodgers Head-to-Head

The Nationals and Dodgers played twice last year and the series finished 3-3. The last time they met was in July 2022, where the Nationals won the three-game series (2-1) in Washington.

Nationals vs Dodgers Betting Lines

Over/Under Pick

After the two failed to reach the nine-run total from the MLB spreads in the first game, it’s hard to envision them doing so in the second game. The Nationals have struggled recently offensively, and with Gonsolin on the mound for LA, he should help keep the game under once again.

Pick: Under 9 (-120)

Moneyline Pick

With the Dodgers 18-7 at home, it’s no surprise the sportsbook has them as heavy favorites. Washington hasn’t been able to get the better of Los Angeles lately, especially on the road, and Tuesday’s matchup should be no different as the Dodgers secure the series win.
