The Miami Marlins might not get into the playoffs since the National League East is one of the best divisions in baseball, there are series in which they’re going to have to take care of business.
The Washington Nationals certainly have a few high-end players, but they’re one of the worst teams in baseball. This is the perfect time for Miami to take care of business here and get back on track after winning only three of their last 10 games. There’s truly no reason why Miami can’t sweep this three-game series and that’s exactly what they’re going to look to do Monday.
The Miami Marlins certainly aren’t one of the best teams in all of baseball, but they’re definitely much better than how they’ve performed. They’re going to be coming into this one at 15-19 and have been slumping.
However, the Marlins one of the most interesting pitching staffs in baseball due to their youth. There’s no reason why a guy like Sandy Alcantara can’t get the job done against a below-average Washington Nationals lineup on Monday and maybe spark a series sweep for Miami.
Aaron Sanchez is going to get the start for the Nationals and the current Marlins lineup hasn’t necessarily done a great job against him. Hitters in the Marlins lineup are batting below .225 against him and his FIP is below three.
Nationals Struggling as Expected
It’s not secret that the Washington Nationals were expected to be one of the worst teams in baseball and that hasn’t changed. Washington is 12-24 and is also 3-7 in its last 10 games.
The Nationals were able to get one win against a tough Houston Astros team in their three-game series this weekend, but there’s a good chance that they won’t get one against the Marlins.
Alcantara has also done a great job against the current Washington Nationals lineup in his career, holding them to just a .214 batting average and has a FIP of 4.19. Hitters only have an average exit velocity of 86.9, which could be a good indication that he’s going to once again shut down thr National.
Nationals vs Marlins Head-to-Head
Miami and Washington have played three times this season, with the Marlins taking all three of those games.
The current MLB odds are going to see the Miami Marlins as the favorite on the moneyline at -185. Because those odds are too high, we’re going to go with the Miami Marlins -1½ for +110 odds.
Although the Marlins have also struggled, they’re certainly a much better team than the Washington Nationals. If Alcantara continues to dominate on the mound, this is a game that they should easily win.
