Nationals Just Trying To Keep Afloat

The Washington Nationals are struggling to say the least. They’re a break-even 5-5 in their last ten games, but still find themselves in last place in the NL East, They are three games behind the Marlins.

Meanwhile, they are playing not only the best team in their division, but also one of the best teams in the game. These next few games could get rough.

The Nationals’ offense is actually hitting for a high average, but they don’t have the ability to score runs in bulk by way of the long ball. They are 29th in home runs per game at 0.640.

In other words, Washington gets runners on base; they’re not pushing them across. Meanwhile. the pitching staff is surrendering 5.34 runs per game, a low 28th in MLB ratings. That’s not a good combination.

What’s worse is slugger Nelson Cruz leaving the game Monday after being hit by a pitch.

He finally left in the fifth inning (hit in first), and will be listed as day-to-day. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.

Mets’ Pressure Off a Depleted Staff

With pitchers going down left and right for the Mets-they’re missing many of their rotation-the Mets offense has really hit its stride. Thus, they’ve taken some of the burden off the pitchers.

Pounding out 13 runs Monday night after starter David Peterson gave up three runs in the first inning tells the pitching staff that the hitters have their backs. That’s a good feeling when the pitching staff is in question

How good are these 2022 Mets? .Are they the real deal? They’re on a season-high, four-game winning streak and are looking to extend their 9½-game lead in the NL East…where none of the other teams is at least.500.

That’s an added benefit to the good baseball the Mets are playing, despite injuries to the pitching staff.

Some may look at the rough series the Mets had recently with the San Francisco Giants, a small sample size and the bats still produced very well. If the Mets can just stay consistent and winning each series, they will be in very good shape as they have their sights locked on winning a NL East division and a strong push in the playoffs.
