Picks, Prediction for Orioles vs Yankees on Tuesday, May 23
The New York Yankees are 29-20 and the Baltimore Orioles are 31-16, but both teams are looking up in the American League East. They trail the Tampa Bay Rays in a division where all five teams are above .500.
In what’s become baseball’s toughest division, every win will be crucial – especially in the divisional contests. On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles visit the New York Yankees. Which team is the best bet versus the MLB odds?
Yankees Have Found Groove
The Yankees were just 15-15 after their first 30 contests, but those who bet online have seen them kick it up a notch since. They are 14-5 in their last 19 and enter Tuesday’s affair riding a four-game winning streak.
Pitching has really led the way, allowing 19 runs in their last seven. Opponents have been held to three runs or less in four of their last five. The one miss was a four-run effort by the Cincinnati Reds in an extra-innings game.
Orioles en Route to First Place?
While the Rays garnered all of the early headlines, it’s the Orioles who have been the better team of late. The Rays are 7-7 in their last 14 games; the O’s are 9-3 in their last 12. They’ve been money in the bank for MLB picks – including in Toronto over the weekend.
The O’s were a dog in the sportsbook in each of the contests, including a sizable one on Sunday. That didn’t matter as they still came through with an 8-3 win.
What’s interesting about the O’s is that a lot of their metrics look off. They’re 13th in team ERA and 15th in WHIP. On the other side, they’re 13th in team batting average and 10th in home runs.
Nonetheless, they’ve been consistently good this season from Opening Day. There’s no reason to fade them now – even if some of the stats suggest they’re not as good as they’ve shown so far.
Starting Pitchers
Kyle Bradish (2-1, 3.90 ERA) vs Gerrit Cole (5-0, 2.01)
Obviously, the Orioles are a dog in this spot given that Cole is on the mound for the Yankees. However, be careful making assumptions on the MLB betting lines hereas Bradish has been solid of late.
On the season, Bradish has a 3.90 ERA, but in the month of May, he’s at 2.04. He’s permitted just one earned run in his last two starts (12.2 innings).
As for Cole, he’s only had one bad start to the season, where he gave up five earned runs in five innings to the league-best Tampa Bay Rays. Other than that, he’s allowed just nine earned runs in his other nine starts.
Given the matchup, this game might be best for MLB live betting as the teams and pitching are so evenly matched.
Orioles vs Yankees Head-to Head
This is the second series of the season between the teams. The Yankees took two of three in the first. Looking back to last season, the Yankees went 7-5 in the 12 meetings.
