Padres vs Blue Jays Prediction and Best Bets Today, May 20
My prediction
The San Diego Padres defied the MLB betting odds when they managed just three runs while being swept by the visiting Seattle Mariners over the weekend. Now, San Diego goes on the road for what could be a hostile environment with Toronto sports fans likely reeling and just a little cranky following another Maple Leafs playoff meltdown.
The road team has won the series between the Padres and the Blue Jays in 2023 and 2024. That is one trend I see continuing in Tuesday’s series opener. I’d stay away from any MLB home run props.

San Diego Padres ML (-120)
Dylan Cease deserves better than three no-decisions with a 2.60 ERA and 22 strikeouts in three May starts. The Padres have almost as many road wins as the Blue Jays have victories at home.
Go with Cease and the Padres to win in the series opener when making MLB expert picks.

Padres vs Blue Jays Under 8 (-105)
The Blue Jays have seen 14 of 25 games land over the sports betting odds total. However, neither team is exactly dialed in at the plate right now, and with Cease being opposed by Chris Bassitt, runs might be hard to come by.

My Best Prop Bets
-
Manny Machado 2+ Total Bases (+122)
It has been a strange month for San Diego third baseman Manny Machado. He made MLB news when he had at least one hit in each of his first 12 games in May. However, he was 0-for-11 with three strikeouts in the three games versus the Mariners.
Three of Machado’s five career hits when facing Chris Bassitt have gone for extra bases. Go with the +122 odds for Machado to have 2+ total bases from hits.
Bet on Manny Machado 2+ Total Bases (+122)

Blue Jays Will Score Last (-125)
There are some statistics that make little sense. Toronto is one of three teams hitting over .300 in the first inning. However, only the Houston Astros have scored fewer first-inning runs than the Blue Jays this season. San Diego has outscored Toronto 35-15 in the first inning.
The Padres are hitting just .202 as a team from the seventh inning on. Go with Toronto at 125 to score last in Tuesday’s series opener as one of the MLB parlay picks today to consider.
