Brewers Win Series Opener
Going into the bottom of the ninth on Thursday, it looked as though the San Diego Padres were going to end their three-game losing streak.
Instead, the Milwaukee Brewers erased a three-run lead on a bases-clearing triple by Jace Peterson and walk-off single by Andrew McCutchen to send the Padres to their fourth consecutive loss.
Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Padres vs Brewers. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Where Padres, Brewers Stand
The Brewers improved to 33-20 and dropped the Padres to 30-21 after the series opener.
The win came at a good time for the Brewers, who capitalized on a loss by the St. Louis Cardinals to the Chicago Cubs. As a result, the Brewers increased their lead in the National League Central to three games over the Cardinals while improving to 15-6 at American Family Field.
While the Padres sit four games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, their mark of 30-21 is still the best among second-place teams in the National League.
It’s hard to think teams are thinking about the Wild Card this early in the season, but the Padres are atop the standings with a 2½-game cushion. The four-game slide is tied for the second-longest current losing streak in the majors, and the Padres are 3-7 in their last 10.
How Padres, Brewers Rank
Despite the loss, the Padres still have the 10th-best cover percentage against the runline in baseball at 27-24 (52.9 percent). On the other side, the Brewers are in the bottom third of the league, despite being a first-place team. They’re 24-29 against the run line with a cover percentage of only 45.3.
Milwaukee’s 15-6 home record is impressive. It’s translated decently well to the runline, which the Brewers have covered 11 of 21 times at home, the seventh-best mark in the major leagues.
Meanwhile, the Padres have an overall record of 17-11 on the road but also have the second-best cover percentage against the runline on the road at 20-8 for a cover percentage of 71.4.
When it comes to the total, the Brewers are in the middle of the pack. They’ve hit the over in 24 contests, the under in 26 with three pushes. The Padres have hit the under in 57.1 percent of their games, the fifth-highest percentage in baseball.

Padres vs Brewers Prediction
It shapes up to be a pitching duel Friday as both teams send their aces to the mound.
Joe Musgrove takes the hill for the Padres looking to improve to 6-0. Musgrove is tied with only Toronto Blue Jays starter Alek Manoah in quality starts with nine. His 1.86 ERA ranks sixth in the majors.
On the other side, the Brewers send Corbin Burns to the mound. Burnes ranks seventh in the league in ERA at 1.98. His 78 strikeouts are third in baseball and he could overtake the top spot with a good performance on Friday.
This could be the spot for the Padres to break out of their funk and earn a win. It will be a tall task for either teams to score runs with two of the top pitchers matching up.
But, just in case the Brewers win in dramatic fashion similar to Thursday’s game, the best bet for this game is the Padres +1½ on the run line.
