Padres Are Spinning Wheels
The NL West continues to be one of the best divisions in baseball, a backdrop as the San Diego Padres visit the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first of two games.
San Diego comes into this series with a record of 45-30, including 24-14 on the road. The Padres have lost three of their last four games (4-6 in last 10). They need to turn things back around.
Arizona has gone 33-41, probably somewhat better than expected. The Diamondbacks have gone just 18-21 at home, and are out for a measure of revenge. San Diego swept three recent home games against Arizona
The MLB lines for the series opener is a pick ’em, both teams listed at -105. Check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Padres vs Diamondbacks. There are plenty of MLB predictions.
Pitching Powering Padres
The San Diego Padres entered the 2022 season with a lethal offense, but two of the biggest bats are missing currently. Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) 0hasn’t played, while Manny Machado (ankle) is also on the shelf.
Machado is leading the team with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs to date, and his production is (obviously) going to be missed greatly. Until those stars return, San Diego has a pitching staff capable of carrying the load.
Lefthander Sean Manaea takes the mound Tuesday. He’s gone 3-3 with a 3.87 ERA this season. The Padres do have a dominant bullpen that can shut the door, provided that Manaea gets them a lead.
D’backs Not Great at Plate
Speaking after a recent 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers, manager Torey Lovullo said, “We have to figure it out,” referring to the offense. Arizona Diamondbacks are hitting just .216 as a team, just not sufficient offense to win.
Christian Walker leads the team with 19 home runs and 38 RBIs, but after Walker, then who? Righty Zac Gallen gets the Tuesday start, looking to continue his form. He’s 4-2 to go along with a sparkling 2.92 ERA. Arizona always has a chance to win with Gallen.
Padres vs Diamondbacks Head-to-Head
Arizona has actually won 53 percent of the games against San Diego all-time, but the Padres have dominated this season, 6-1 entering Tuesday.

Padres vs Diamondbacks Prediction
Making MLB picks is sometimes as simple as backing one starting pitcher against another. It’s difficult to ignore what Zac Gallen has done this year for the Diamondbacks. San Diego is clearly the better team overall, but they also have some pretty significant injury concerns.
Look for Gallen to dominate Tuesday night. Taking the Arizona Diamondbacks at -105 is the way to go.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks (-105)
