Life hasn’t been easy for the San Diego Padres lately. They’ve lost five out of their last seven games and are slipping in the National League West standings.
Some of those losses have been particularly stinging, including one where the Arizona Diamondbacks came back from a 6-0 deficit. Their latest defeat came against the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday in their series opener.
The Dodgers have won seven out of their last 10. They remain one of the better teams in baseball with a 47-28 record. Can the Padres pull themselves back together or will Los Angeles take care of business again?
Padres Need Momentum Back
Somehow, the San Diego Padres have to find a way to get some momentum back. Otherwise, they are heading down a path where it will be quite challenging for them to contend in the NL West.
Blake Snell is going to be the starting pitcher on Friday and he’s had a seriously rough season. He’s got an 0-5 record with a 5.60 ERA. In fact, the Padres have lost seven straight games in which Snell has pitched.
In all seven of those games, the opposing team scored more than three runs. Five opponents scored four or more.
Snell will have to be far better on Friday. He’s been a Cy Young contender in the past. If you bet online, note that he’s a shell of his former self right now.
Dodgers Rolling With Gonsolin
Unlike Snell, the pitcher that the Los Angeles Dodgers are starting hasn’t lost this season. Tony Gonsolin will get the nod and he’s accrued a perfect 9-0 record.
He’s tied for the second-best record in the league by a pitcher. Gonsolin also has the third-best WHIP at 0.85 and the No. 1 ERA in the league at 1.58. Simply put, he’s one of the most valuable pitchers in the game.
Gonsolin’s his home statistics are unbelievable. He’s not only 5-0, but he’s got an ERA of 0.81 in 33.1 pitched innings.
With the Dodgers at home, the Padres have their work cut out for them.
Padres vs Dodgers Head-to-Head
The Dodgers have won three out of the four matchups against the Padres this season. The pitching matchup on Friday points to them having a good opportunity to extend those trends.

Padres vs Dodgers Prediction
Just looking at how these two squads have performed with their starting pitchers, it’s hard not to take the Dodgers with your MLB picks. Gonsolin hasn’t lost this season.
Plus, he’s got an ERA of 0.81 when he has a home-field advantage. That’s why the Dodgers are a big favorite in the sportsbook. On the other hand, Snell has seen his team lose all seven games in which he’s pitched at least three innings.
