Los Angeles on Three-Game Win Streak
The Los Angeles Dodgers go for a fourth straight win and an increase in their lead in the NL West when they face the visiting San Diego Padres in the third of a key four-game series on Saturday. Los Angeles has won the first two games to push its advantage over the second-place Padres to three games in the division standings. San Diego has dropped five of its last six contests and is just four games ahead of the third-place San Francisco Giants. These teams are two of the best in baseball, so make sure to read our in-depth preview of this contest to help you with your betting online.
Padres Have Seen Offense Go Silent
The San Diego Padres have had their trouble scoring against the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, averaging just 1.6 runs in the first five games between the teams, including a total of two runs in the first two games of this series. San Diego is tied for 10th in total runs heading into Saturday’s action, but it needs to get more at the plate if it wants to turn this series around.
It doesn’t help that third baseman Manny Machado is still working his way back from an ankle injury that kept him out for more than a week prior to this series. Machado went 1-for-4 with a double in the series opener, though he struck out three times, then struck out in his only plate appearance as a pinch-hitter in Friday’s loss.
Machado has been one of the top hitters in the game, and the Padres need him to be in the lineup and productive as soon as possible. Machado is fourth in baseball with a .326 batting average and has 18 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 49 runs scored.
Right-hander Yu Darvish will try to quiet the Dodgers’ offense when he makes his 15th start of the season on Saturday. The 35-year-old Darvish is 7-3 with a 3.26 ERA, striking out 75 in 88⅓ innings. Darvish was at his best when he started against Los Angeles earlier this season, throwing six shutout innings and allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking three.
Gonsolin Continues Dominant Season For Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation has been hit by a few injuries, but the constant has been Tony Gonsolin, who moved to 10-0 on the season with a win on Friday night, becoming the first 10-game winner in the National League. Gonsolin pitched into the eighth inning, allowing one run and four hits to lower his MLB-best ERA to 1.54.
“I’m just trying to stay in the (strike) zone and let them hit it,” Gonsolin said after Friday’s win. “We have the best defense behind me so let those guys play.”
Left-hander Tyler Anderson will take the mound looking to improve on his 8-1 record and 3.23 ERA. Anderson has made 12 starts and 14 appearances, striking out 67 and walking 13 over 78 innings. He’s coming off his first loss of the season in his last start, going six innings against the Colorado Rockies on Monday and allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking one.
Third baseman Max Muncy had a home run in Friday’s win, his second in four games. The Dodgers would love to get more out of Muncy, who is batting just .168 with six doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 22 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
Outfielder Cody Bellinger also homered on Friday, his second in three contests. Bellinger is batting .211 with 13 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 35 runs scored.
Padres vs Dodgers Head-To-Head
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won four of the five meetings between these NL West rivals this season, continuing their dominance of the San Diego Padres from the past few seasons. Los Angeles took 12 of the 19 matchups between the two teams in 2021, their 11th straight season of winning the season series.
San Diego has struggled when playing in Dodger Stadium, as they’ve now gone 5-13 in the venue since the start of the 2020 campaign. A look at the MLB lines for Saturday’s contest shows the bookmakers are expecting that trend to continue, as Los Angeles is favored to get another win.

Padres vs Dodgers Prediction
Darvish will help the San Diego Padres stay close in this one, but Anderson has been fantastic for the Los Angeles Dodgers and will be hard to score on as well. The deeper lineup of the Dodgers comes through again as Los Angeles widens its division lead with another victory.
