San Diego, Miami Coming Off Different Series
The San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins had Memorial Day off and will begin a three-game series on Tuesday, with their last series potentially impacting their MLB odds. The Padres lost their previous one in the final game, while the Marlins managed to get a sweep.
Neither team has been super reliable in MLB lines for this matchup, with the Padres not playing great and dealing with injuries, while the Marlins are inconsistent.
Padres Dealing With Injuries
This season has not gone according to plan for the Padres. Despite having some of the best MLB playoff odds in the preseason, they are now fourth in the National League West Division. It seemed like they were starting to find a rhythm, winning four of the last seven games, but then lost the last series to the New York Yankees in the rubber matchup, giving up seven runs in the third inning.
Injuries are not entirely the root of San Diego’s issues but have played a role. Manny Machado is on the 10-day injury list, possibly coming back soon, and Juan Soto was a late scratch in the final game with the Yankees. Soto was starting to find his bat, with a .389 batting average over the last seven games. Maybe that extra day off can help the Padres get healthy for MLB betting.
Marlins Got Soler Rolling
The Marlins just finished a 10-day West Coast trip that featured three series. The trip started rocky, going 2-5, but then Miami faced the Los Angeles Angels, sweeping them.

A big part of that late shift was Jorge Soler’s bat coming alive. He was headlining MLB news for hitting a home run in five straight games before going 0-4 in the final game against the Angels. Soler was already one of the top bats in Miami’s batting order, leading the team in home runs and runs batted in.
Starting Pitchers
Ryan Weathers (1-3, 3.94 ERA) vs Sandy Alcantara (2-5, 4.86)
Ryan Weathers’ season has been interesting. He got three starts at the beginning of the season, having a 2.81 ERA, but was moved to the bullpen, where he was solid. Then, he only made two appearances in relief before being dropped to the minors for around three weeks. Since his return to the majors, Weathers has had two starts, struggling in both, allowing nine runs, eight earned, in 11.2 innings.
Sandy Alcantara has also been inconsistent but in a different way. After winning the 2022 NL Cy Young Award, he has struggled with a 4.86 ERA. However, it does seem like Alcantara is starting to trend in the right direction. In his last start, he went six innings, allowing two runs.
