Picks, Prediction for Padres vs Marlins on Wednesday, May 31
On Wednesday, the San Diego Padres will play the Miami Marlins in the second game of three, with both teams trending in opposite directions. The Padres’ unproductive season is only getting worse, while the Marlins are starting to find a groove, affecting MLB lines despite losing Game 1.
Game 1 was tied at 4-4 until the ninth inning when the Padres erupted for five runs. From the seventh inning to the end of the game, San Diego scored seven runs without hitting a homer.
Padres Hitting Keeps Struggling
It is old MLB news now, but this dreadful start for the Padres has only worsened. A lineup featuring San Diego’s stars should be hitting, but it isn’t. Over the last 15 days, they have the third-worst batting average in the league, at .212.

The only thing saving them is that they are still hitting home runs, tied for the fourth most during that time. However, an unlikely source has been Rougned Odor, who has hit three homers in the last seven days. The Padres’ offense, which should be a strength, has been negative regarding MLB betting. But maybe Game 1 was the spark the team needed, not using the home run to score seven in the final three innings.
Marlins Getting a Little Hot
With how the Marlins played in their last series, their MLB odds are starting to adjust. Miami swept the Los Angeles Angels, winning the first and last game with strong pitching performances, allowing two runs combined. The Marlins won the middle game, 8-5, having a solid offensive night.
Jorge Soler is a player to watch for MLB picks and parlays. He has played well the last seven days, hitting four home runs over the previous six games, and his power has been consistent. He is tied for second in the National League for the most home runs at 17.

Blake Snell (1-6, 5.04) vs Braxton Garrett (1-2, 4.50)
Two lefties will take the mound. For San Diego, Blake Snell has struggled with a 5.04 ERA. For the most part, his outings have not been great, allowing two or more runs in every start but the last one. In his last outing, Snell went five innings, allowing one run with a season-high six strikeouts.
On the other hand, Braxton Garrett has been solid, outside of one start that has ballooned his ERA to 4.50. In that one rough start, he allowed 14 hits and 11 runs in 4.1 innings, but other than that, Garrett has been good. He has held opponents to two runs or less in seven of his nine starts.
