My prediction

• Phillies -1.5 Runs (+140)

A big piece of Philadelphia’s formula is Aaron Nola and his ability to give the team a chance every fifth day, as he’s done for years. That ability was lacking early in the season, but Nola has turned things around in a big way, allowing one run in 13 innings over his last two games. He gives the visitors a massive advantage over the struggling Gavin Williams, which makes a Phillies cover the first of our MLB picks.

Philadelphia has won three straight and nine of its last 11.

• Phillies vs Guardians Over 8 Runs

Philadelphia has scored at least seven runs in each of its last five games. That’s not entirely sustainable but a lot of guys are feeling really good at the plate right now, and Williams and his 5.06 ERA isn’t the one to stop them. Opponents are hitting .321 against him at home.

The Guardians will be challenged by Nola but they have hit the over 54.1% of the time.

• Alec Bohm to Record a Hit (-197)

There’s limited history with the Phillies and Williams, but Bohm has a pair of hits in his only two at-bats against the righty. That’s as good a barometer as any in this sort of a situation, but it also helps that Bohm is beginning to break out after a rough patch in April. He’s batting .317 over the last 16 games. If you’re feeling bullish on this one, put him down for two hits when you place your MLB prop picks.

• Steven Kwan to Record 2+ Total Bases (+136)

Like Bohm with Williams, Kwan has been afforded some opportunities against Nola and has made the most of them. He’s 3-for-3 with a home run against the veteran right-hander. There’s always the chance that Nola will work around the Guardians star outfielder, which could open up an opportunity for a stolen base prop pick.

• Phillies vs Guardians YRFI (+114)

Nola’s early-season struggles included an inability to start off on the right foot. He owns a 6.43 ERA in the first inning, issuing four of his 13 walks in that frame. Williams owns an identical 6.43 mark this year and opponents have slugged three round-trippers in the first inning of his MLB games in 2025.

Philadelphia is fourth in the majors in first-inning scoring percentage (37.84) and it will test Williams right away.
