Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Phillies vs Padres. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.

Phillies vs Padres Picks

Phillies Continue To Be Inconsistent

The Philadelphia Phillies were shut out for the second time in four games on Friday night, and in their last four losses, they’ve managed a total of five runs. They did put up six runs in Thursday’s win over the San Diego Padres.

Four of the top five hitters in the lineup went 0-for-4 on Friday night, including designated hitter Bryce Harper, who struck out twice. Despite that showing, Harper is 10th in baseball with a .320 batting average and is tied for 10th in the majors with 48 RBIs. He also has 21 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs and 49 runs scored.

Outfielder Kyle Schwarber was also 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts, snapping his two-game streak of hitting a home run. Schwarber is tied for fourth in the majors with his 20 home runs and is hitting .215 with 11 doubles, 41 RBIs and 50 runs scored.

Right-hander Zach Eflin will get the call to start on Saturday night. Eflin is 2-5 with a 4.43 ERA in 2022, striking out 53 in 63 innings. He’s struggled in his last two starts, allowing four earned runs in each, including four in just two innings against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Nola Gets Best Of Brother in Padres’ Win

The San Diego Padres had their troubles against Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola on Friday night, but his older brother had the answer. San Diego catcher Austin Nola drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single, helping the Padres to the victory.

“Glad we got the win, but then your brother gets the loss,” Austin Nola said after Friday’s win. “He pitched an unbelievable game. It’s fun to watch him. There’s no doubt about it. He’s done it twice to us. Threw seven innings; threw eight innings last year. What a performance by him.

“It was weird. I got the hit and I was like, ‘Ah, I feel great,’ and then I look at him and he’s locked back in, going after the next hitter. Credit to him. Nothing ever fazes him.”

Nola is batting .241 with six doubles, two home runs, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Third baseman Manny Machado continues to sit out with his ankle injury. Machado is batting .328 (fifth in baseball) with 17 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs, 46 RBIs and 48 runs scored, but he hasn’t played since suffering the injury on Tuesday.

Left-hander Blake Snell will make his seventh start. Snell is 0-4 with a 5.46 ERA and has allowed at least two earned runs in every start. He got a late start to the season due to a groin injury, facing the Phillies in his first 2022 appearance on May 18 and allowing three runs on three hits in 3⅔ innings.

Phillies vs Padres Head-To-Head

The San Diego Padres can clinch the season series with a win on Saturday night, as they have taken three of the first five meetings with the Philadelphia Phillies this season. It would be the first season series win in the rivalry for San Diego since the 2017 campaign.

Philadelphia has won two of three from the Padres in San Diego in each of their last two trips to Petco Park. As we glance at the MLB lines for Saturday’s contest, the Padres are getting the edge to win again.

Snell has struggled, and the San Diego Padres are likely going to be missing one of the top hitters in the game in Machado yet again. The Philadelphia Phillies are due to break out of their offensive slump, and we see them doing just that on Saturday night.
