Rangers on Two-Game Skid
The Philadelphia Phillies look for a little revenge when they take on the host Texas Rangers in the first of a two-game series on Tuesday night, having dropped both of the teams’ matchups earlier this season. Philadelphia had its five-game winning streak snapped with a loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday and is in third place in the National League East.
Texas has dropped two straight and is a percentage point behind the Los Angeles Angels for second place in the American League West. Both teams need to get hot to move up in their respective divisions, and they’ll send two strong pitchers to the mound for the opener. Let’s check the latest MLB picks, news, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Phillies vs Rangers. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Phillies Short-Handed With Harper Sidelined
The Philadelphia Phillies have been led at the plate by designated hitter Bryce Harper, but the perennial All-Star has missed the last two games with a blister on his hand. Harper may be available for this game, though he said Sunday that it’s more of a waiting game at this point.
“The blister’s healed,” Harper said after Sunday’s loss to the Washington Nationals. “It’s an infection underneath the blister. Kind of wait that out and see how much better it can get the next couple of days.“
Harper is batting .326 with 48 RBIs, ranking ninth in baseball in both categories. He has 21 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, and 48 runs scored.
Outfielder Kyle Schwarber is batting just .213, but he leads the team with 18 home runs. Schwarber also has 11 doubles, 37 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He is batting .284 in the month of June.
Right-hander Kyle Gibson will make his 14th start against his former team on Tuesday night. Gibson played for the Rangers in 2020 and part of 2021 before being traded to the Phillies during the 2021 campaign. He is 4-2 with a 4.04 ERA, striking out 62 in 71.1 innings of work.
Perez Looks to Lift Rangers
The Texas Rangers have been able to count on left-hander Martin Perez for most of this season, and he’s hoping to come through again on Tuesday night. Perez is 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA, which is good for sixth in baseball, and he’s hoping to continue to climb back after a horrific outing two starts ago.
Perez entered a June 11 start against the Chicago White Sox with a 1.56 ERA, but he allowed seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits in five innings. He bounced back with seven innings of one-run ball against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, but he needs to show he can do it again against a tough Philadelphia Phillies lineup.
Outfielder Adolis Garcia has gone 5-for-11 with a double, a triple, a home run, four RBIs and five runs scored over the last three games. Garcia is batting .253 in 2022, with 11 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 45 RBIs and 40 runs scored.
Shortstop Corey Seager has home runs in three of the last five games, including each of the last two, and leads the Rangers with 15. Seager is batting .230 with eight doubles, 31 RBIs and 34 runs scored in his first season with Texas.
Phillies vs Rangers Head-To-Head
The Texas Rangers are on a seven-game winning streak against the Philadelphia Phillies entering this series, having won the two previous meetings this season on the road. Texas also swept the season series in 2017 with a three-game home sweep and won the final two meetings of the 2014 season, also played in Arlington.
Philadelphia hasn’t won a season series from the Rangers since the 2011 campaign and is 7-10 against Texas all-time despite starting off the rivalry with six wins in the first eight meetings. The Rangers are getting the edge in the MLB lines for Tuesday’s contest as well, though that likely has more to do with Perez being on the mound than the history between the clubs.

Phillies vs Rangers Prediction
Both of these teams have a solid starter on the mound for this contest, but the Texas Rangers still have the edge with Perez and playing at home. The Philadelphia Phillies could use Harper, and if he’s back, he’ll make a difference, but we still like the Rangers to get the victory
When doing your MLB betting, take Texas to win the series opener at home.
