Teams Continue Series
Nothing is better than a little red-on-red battle to brighten up our Tuesday evening. The Philadelphia Phillies will be playing the Cincinnati Reds in the second of a three-game series.
These two National League teams are trendings in opposite directions here in the second half of the season, according to our MLB playoff odds. The Phillies were big buyers at the trade deadline as they are sitting at 64-51. The Reds, (45-69) on the other hand, were sellers and continue their rebuild.
Phillies in Wild Card Spot
The Philadelphia Phillies are without one of the best players in MLB but are playing their best baseball.
Pretty much every NL wild card contender should be scared when Bryce Harper returns. Our MLB free picks have seen the Phillies as the favorites in many games as of late.
Unfortunately for the Phillies, they are in one of the best divisions in baseball behind the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets. They are 10½ games behind the Mets and their focus right now is securing a wild card spot.
Kyle Gibson will get the nod in game two of the series. Gibson is 7-5 with a 4.29 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 91 strikeouts through 121.2 innings pitched.
The righty is a pitch-to-contact type of guy who will not wow you with his numbers but is a solid piece in the rotation. He is 1-2 with a 4.73 ERA on the road, but has not pitched against the Cincinnati Reds in 2022.
Now, we get into the fun part. The Phillies are good on both the moneyline and against the spread. They are 61-54 against the spread, including 33-24 on the road. The well-rounded Phillies team looks to keep rolling, and the odds are in their favor to do so, looking at the trends.
Reds Looking to Stay Out of Last
The Cincinnati Reds are tied with the same amount of wins as their divisional foe, the Pittsburgh Pirates. They look to bounce back in game two of the series and avoid being at the bottom of the NL Central.
T.J. Zeuch will step on the rubber for the home team. Zeuch is 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and four strikeouts through four innings pitched. We have a very small sample size for the righty, as he has only made one start. It was a 10-2 loss against the New York Mets, where he allowed six earned runs.
Cincinnati has a -112 run differential and is 24-46 against teams above .500. The Reds have struggled in many areas this season, but they are 45-45 against the spread as underdogs.
Be careful with the spread because it literally goes either way half of the time. They will be the underdogs again Tuesday based on our MLB lines.
Phillies vs Reds Head-to-Head
Surprisingly, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds have not met prior to this series. The Phillies won the series opener 4-3.

Phillies vs Reds Prediction
To no surprise, our sportsbook has the Philadelphia Phillies as favorites even though they are on the road. With both teams trendings in opposite directions, you should go with the team going in the right direction.
The Phillies will win this game and they will win easily. Unlike Monday night, the Phillies will cover, and the spread is the way to go. Take Philadelphia -1½.
