Pittsburgh Pirates Over/Under 57½ Wins

BetUS Sportsbook has the Pirates’ regular-season wins total listed at 57½. The over is -125, and the under is -105. 

I think this future bet is one of the easier ones listed on the sportsbook. The Pirates are going to struggle but they will break the 58-win mark.

The Milwaukee Brewers 

The Brewers are the best team in the NL Central. Many people believe it’s the Cardinals, but the addition of Jackie Bradley Jr. takes the Brewers up a notch. The Brewers are projected to finish eight to 10 games above .500. 

The Brewers have a few stars like Christian Yelich and Keston Hiura, with Travis Shaw and Bradley playing supporting roles. However, the holes are gaping with the Brewers. These holes will be why the Pirates will steal some wins against the best team in the division. 

With Milwaukee, if Yelich does not hit, this is a below-average lineup. This was the case last year with Yelich’s immense slump. The pitching staff is also average, so this is another reason why the Pirates will win some games against the Brewers.

The Rest of the Division

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are the next best teams in the division. Each of these clubs will most likely finish below .500 in 2021. There is a chance that the Brewers finish below .500 as well, which would be unprecedented, giving the entire division sub-.500 teams.

The Cubs have the most potent lineup in the division from top to bottom and decent pitching. However, slumps are a common theme of this squad, and they have four free agents ready to hit the market at the end of the season.

If the Cubs are out of the race at the deadline, expect them to use a few of these players as trade bait. The Cardinals also have a lineup that can hit with the addition of Nolan Arenado, but the pitching is average at best. 

Jack Flaherty is a true ace, but the rest of the rotation is not the best. Adam Wainwright will be the second pitcher in the rotation, but he is past his prime at age 39. 

The Reds are slightly worse than the Cubs and Cardinals. If a few players do not perform on the Reds, they are almost at the Pirates’ level. The Pirates can beat every team in this division on any given day.

The Pirates

Pittsburgh has a few hitters in its lineup that should approach 20 home runs. If these are timely, it will be beneficial for the team. The Pirates will need to work counts and walk to win games.

KeBryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds will need to be dominant in 2021. These two players are the offensive keys for the Pirates in going over 57½ wins. 

All the pitchers on the roster will have a mid-to high-four ERA, making Hayes and Reynolds critical. The Pirates are not going to break any records, but they have the team to win 58 games, with the competition in the NL Central.
