Rangers vs Angels Over is MLB Best Bet

The Los Angeles Angels clapped back on Tuesday and evened up their series against the Texas Rangers at 1-1, with the rubber match scheduled for Wednesday night in Anaheim. Despite the loss, the Rangers remain 2.5 games ahead of the Houston Astros for the American League West lead.

The current MLB odds list the Rangers as heavy -550 favorites to hang on and win the division, while the Astros are a tempting choice at +450 to make things interesting over the final few days of the year.

Needless to say, every game is critical for the Rangers as they look to move on from a 9-3 loss on Tuesday.

Battle of Middling Pitchers

The Rangers may be in first place in the division with Vegas MLB odds at +800 to win the World Series, but it’s not because of their dominant pitching. After allowing the 17th-highest batting average in the league and 16th-most runs, it’s clear the Rangers are winning despite their mediocre rotation.

For most of the season, Dane Dunning was part of the solution with a solid ERA and win-loss record for Texas. But he’s moved into being part of the problem this month with a 6.65 ERA and a 2-2 record in four September starts.

Dunning also has a poor.279 average against the Halos with five extra-base hits and 10 walks allowed in 43 at-bats.

Meanwhile, Griffin Canning will look to snap a string of bad starts when he takes the mound for LA on Wednesday. The Halos are 0-6 outright and 1-5 against the MLB spread in Canning’s last six starts, which doesn’t inspire much confidence in an MLB bet.

After the Angels exploded for nine runs on Tuesday night and the Rangers put up five the game before, game three will see the highest score of the series with two struggling starters on the mound. The Rangers’ offense needs to stay hot heading into the playoffs. LA has less to play for, but it could help spoil Texas’ division hopes, and there are guys on this roster fighting for contracts and roster spots in 2024.
