AL West Foes Complete Four-Game Set
The Los Angeles Angels try for a second straight win and a split of their four-game series with the visiting Texas Rangers when the teams square off on Sunday. Los Angeles took Saturday’s contest after dropping the first two games of the series, pulling to within 2½ games of the third-place Rangers in the AL West. Texas has dropped six of its last nine games. This series has gone back and forth, so make sure you check out our in-depth preview before you decide on how you want to make your bet online on this contest.
Rangers Unable To Hold Leads in Loss
The Texas Rangers looked on their way to a third straight victory on Saturday, leading the Los Angeles Angels twice by two or more runs. But, both times, the Rangers allowed Los Angeles to rally to take the lead, and they were unable to come back a third time in a 9-7 loss.
Right-hander Dane Dunning will take his turn at trying to shut down the Angels in Sunday’s series finale. Dunning is 1-6 with a 4.38 ERA, striking out 89 in 100⅔ innings. Dunning has yet to take a decision in his three July starts, but he does have an ERA of 6.39 over that span. He’s coming off his best start of the month against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday in which he went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking three.
Catcher Meibrys Viloria hit his first home run of the season to give the Rangers their final runs of the night on Saturday.
Second baseman Marcus Semien had a three-run home run in the contest, erasing a one-run deficit and putting Texas on top.
Angels Finally Find Offense To Get Victory
Over the first two games of their series with the Texas Rangers, the Los Angeles Angels had managed a total of two runs – and two losses. But Saturday, they erupted for nine runs, including five in the eighth inning, rallying for a 9-7 victory. Second baseman Luis Rengifo had the go-ahead two-run double in the frame.
“I feel comfortable. It’s more like, go out there, do my job and stay focused every single time when I take my at-bats and help my team,” Rengifo said after Saturday’s win. “It’s getting more experience, which helps with making adjustments and seeing results.”
Rengifo has been getting results of late, recording a hit in 27 of his last 30 games and batting .351 in those games. Since being called up from Triple-A in May, Rengifo is batting .275 with 12 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
Defending AL MVP Shohei Ohtani got the Angels started with a three-run home run in the third inning. Ohtani is batting .251 with 16 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 57 runs scored.
Left-hander Reid Detmers will face the Rangers for the fourth time in 2022. Detmers is 3-3 with a 3.84 ERA overall but has gone 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA against Texas, allowing 13 earned runs in 13 innings. He’s coming off a win against the Atlanta Braves on July 24 in which he threw five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while striking out six and walking two.
Rangers vs Angels Head-To-Head
The Texas Rangers have a 7-5 edge in the season series against the Los Angeles Angels, with the teams slated to play six more times in September and October. Texas is trying to win the season series for the third time in four seasons after Los Angeles took 11 of the 19 meetings in 2021.
The Rangers have a 3-2 edge in games played at Angel Stadium this season, though they haven’t won more than they’ve lost at the venue in any season since 2017. The MLB lines for Sunday’s game are giving the edge to the Angels in their quest to come away with a split of this weekend’s series.

Rangers vs Angels Prediction
The Los Angeles Angels can be a dangerous offensive team when they’re going well, but that hasn’t happened with a lot of consistency of late. The Texas Rangers are averaging 5.3 runs this series and facing a pitcher they’ve had a lot of success against this season, so we like the visitors to come away with the victory.
