Rays Still Can Move Up
The Tampa Bay Rays were able to break their two-game losing streak by taking down the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, winning 6-5 in extra innings.
The victory brought the Rays just 1½ games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the top Wild Card. They are 1½ games ahead of the Seattle Mariners and five up on the Baltimore Orioles. That’s critical as they look to secure a spot.
As for the Guardians, they’ve already clinched the postseason with a strong second-half run. They also were on a seven-game winning streak before Tuesday’s defeat.
Which side is the best bet versus the MLB betting odds? Let’s take a closer look.
Glasnow Gets Nod for Rays
The Guardians scored five runs in Tuesday’s loss and their bats have generally been doing well of late. The team is batting .257 in their last 10 with Steve Kwan (.465) leading the way. That will make Tyler Glasnow’s job all the harder.
Glasnow is 5-2 with a stellar 2.66 ERA. He’s been money in the bank on the MLB odds of late, though, as the Tampa Bay Rays have won five of his last six starts.
His ERA has been better at home compared to on the road. If you bet online, note that it’s significant. Glasnow is 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA when traveling but 3-1 with a 1.65 ERA with home-field advantage.
His main issue seems to be walks, WHIP and home runs. Each of those numbers inches up when he’s away from home and that’s caused the higher ERA. We’ll see if that factors in Tuesday night.
Guardians Could Send Out McKenzie
We were originally supposed to see Triston McKenzie hit the mound on Tuesday, but his start was pushed back to Wednesday as Shane Bieber got the nod.
McKenzie is 11-11 with a 3.04 ERA, which is 16th-best. He ranks well in a number of categories but in terms of betting in the sportsbook, the Cleveland Guardians have won each of his last four starts.
Similar to Glasnow, McKenzie is better at home. He’s 5-3 with a 2.94 ERA when pitching in front of the home fans versus 6-8 with a 3.11 ERA on the road.

Rays vs Guardians Prediction
The Guardians might have been bested on Tuesday, but they seem to be in a slightly better position to win this game.
McKenzie has gotten more work on the mound compared to Glasnow and Cleveland has won four in a row when he pitches.
His minor pitching edge might be all the difference for Cleveland, which has lost only once in its last eight games.
