The San Diego Padres were supposed to be a contender in the National League but after Friday’s 6-1 loss to Boston, they’ve now dropped eight of their last nine.
They’ve been awful versus the MLB odds, burning bettors left and right. Is there any reason to ride with them on Saturday?
Red Sox Rip Off Another Win
Boston was milred in a tough losing skid up until this week. The Red Sox had lost four straight games and six of their last seven. They were awful to those who bet online.
Since then, they’ve seemingly turned it around with three straight solid wins. In those three straight victories, they have outscored opponents 27-8.
If Boston’s offense is able to continue playing at a high level, we could see it take this series with San Diego handily.
Padres Keep Sliding
San Diego lost its 10th game out of the last 12, falling 6-1 to the Red Sox on Friday. The Padres’ only run was a Fernand Tatis homer in the third inning.
Both fans and MLB betting experts are growing frustrated with San Diego’s lack of consistency.
It’s getting ugly as it was the second straight game that they were booed out by the fans at home.
It also doesn’t help that Manny Machado went on the 10-day injury list with a hairline fracture in his hand after getting hit by a pitch this week.
Losing Machado, dropping 10 of their last 12, and getting booed by the home fans illustrates how disastrous the situation is in San Diego right now.
Starting Pitchers
Chris Sale (Boston Red Sox) vs Joe Musgrove (San Diego Padres)
Boston sends out Chris Sale to kick this one off on the mound. Sale has a 3-2 record but a 5.40 ERA.
He’s coming off one of his best games, though: an eight-inning showing against the St. Louis Cardinals while allowing just one run.
If he can replicate that success on the road, the Red Sox can find themselves in good hands.
San Diego, on the other hand, will roll out Joe Musgrove. Musgrove hasn’t been pitching great this season, giving up 15 runs across 19.0 innings of work.
He’s gotten worse at walking batters in the past two appearances as well, giving up seven walks in that span.
Both of those appearances wound up being losses for San Diego in the sportsbook. Musgrove will need to find a better rhythm, otherwise that 6.63 ERA will climb higher.
Red Sox vs Padres Head-to Head
We’ve seen Boston take on San Diego once since 2019. That matchup was the 6-1 Boston win on Friday. Other than that, these teams are vastly different from the previous series.

Red Sox vs Padres Betting Lines
Over/Under Pick
Look for the over to cash for those who bet online with it being set at 7.5 right now.
Sale is coming off a good performance but still has an ERA over 5.00. The same can be said about Musgrove, whose lofty 6.63 ERA is way above what San Diego wants.
Both teams should be able to generate some offense.
Pick: Over 7.5 (-115)
Moneyline Pick
The Padres look like the better team on paper but Boston completely took care of them on Friday night.
It’s hard to back the Padres. At best, you can watch their game and make a decision in-game with MLB live betting if you believe in them.
This is a team that’s lost 10 of their last 12 with a pitcher that is over a 6.50 ERA. Do you really want to bet it as a favorite? Roll with the Red Sox.
Pick: Boston Red Sox +107
The Padres are struggling and the Red Sox are sitting at nice odds
Red Sox (ML (+107) is the play and way to go
