Red Sox vs Tigers Series Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions
Dalbec's blast helps Red Sox avoid a sweep in the opening series
Plenty of Optimism for Rebuilding Tigers Franchise
The series between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers feature teams as different as the makeup of their pitching staffs. Boston has just two pitchers aged 25 or younger and has plucked many of its starting pitchers from other organizations. All but two of Detroit’s pitchers are in their 20s including five 25 or younger.
The three-game series, all featuring afternoon starts, kicks off with Michael Wacha making his first start for the Red Sox, his fourth team in the last four seasons. Detroit counters with former first-round pick Matt Manning. The MLB Picks favor the veteran hurler in Monday’s series opener.

Boston (+2000) ranks 11th in the odds to win the World Series while Detroit is further back at +5000.
Let’s check the latest MLB Picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB Odds for Red Sox vs Tigers. We’ve plenty of MLB Predictions.
Tough Start to the Season for Red Sox Pitchers
The Boston Red Sox knew it might be a bit of a bumpy ride until ace pitcher Chris Sale returns to the mound but they were hoping to start the season in a better fashion.
In a three-game series with the rival New York Yankees, Boston’s starting pitchers had an earned run average of 6.42 as Boston dropped two of three contests.
In 14 innings of work, Nathan Eovaldi, Nick Pivetta, and Tanner Houck allowed 15 hits and walked seven batters. If there was a positive, it is that eight of the nine relievers did not allow an earned run.
While the Red Sox will score some runs this season, if the starting pitching doesn’t improve, it could be a long year in Boston.
The Red Sox squandered leads with 3-0 and 2-0 to drop the first two games of the season. Boston couldn’t hold an early two-run lead in the final game of the series but Bobby Dalbec’s homer in the sixth inning combined with relievers Matt Strahm, Hansel Robles, and Jake Diekman allowed one runner and no hits over the last three innings – enabled Boston to take one game from the Yankees.
The Las Vegas odds total has landed under in nine of Boston’s last 12 games.
Tigers Happy to take Slugging Outfielder off of Tampa Bay’s Hands
The Detroit Tigers picked up one of its top hitters a season ago when Akil Baddoo was exposed in the Rule 5 Draft. This year, Detroit used a more traditional method to add some punch to its lineup.
When the Tampa Bay Rays put 26-year-old outfielder Austin Meadows on the trade market, the Tigers were more than happy to engage in talks. Now, the left-handed hitter Meadows is a key piece of a Detroit team looking to return to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
In the three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, Meadows was tied for the team lead with four hits and also tied for the top spot with three walks.
Meadows, hitting second in the lineup, walked three times and scored twice in a season-opening 5-4 win. With Meadows hitting second and Javier Baez batting third, the Tigers have two new additions in the heart of the batting order.
Austin Meadows singled off White Sox starter Dylan Cease, ending his outing.
Then, Javier Baez singled off reliever Reynaldo Lopez. Jeimer Candelario followed with an RBI double for the Tigers’ first run.
4-1 ChiSox.

Red Sox vs Tigers Head-to-Head
Boston had won six straight games against the Tigers outscoring the Tigers 64-29 but Detroit has won three of the last five meetings including taking two of three games in an August series.
The Red Sox had won six in a row in Detroit before losing that three-game series on the road and managing only seven runs in three games.
Something of interest to those who bet online, Boston has been favored in the last 22 games against the Tigers.
Eight straight Boston-Detroit games had at least nine combined runs although two of the last three meetings went under the total.

Red Sox vs Tigers Prediction
The Red Sox rank 25th in on-base percentage and 26th in team batting average after their first series of the season. The offense will receive a boost when infielder Trevor Story, one of the major offseason acquisitions in all of baseball, returns to the lineup. He missed Boston’s last game with flu-like symptoms.
Boston’s pitching staff, already without starter James Paxton and reliever Josh Taylor in addition to Sale being on the 60-day injured list, is hoping to get reliever Matt Barnes back.
If there is good news for Boston, one of the only teams with a lower batting average happens to be the Detroit Tigers.
Three Detroit relievers are currently on the injured list.
Manning is coming off a 4-7 season for Detroit while Wacha is 10-16 over the last three seasons so, it is hard to know what to expect from Monday’s starting pitching matchup.
Going over the MLB betting lines total of 9½ might not be the worst move.
