Cincinnati Visits World Series Champions

Braves Eyeing Second Straight Title

Truist Park should be jumping when the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves kick off the 2022 season by hosting the Cincinnati Reds. While the home fans will have to wait to see gifted outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. back in the lineup, many of the other contributors during the championship run are back.

Tyler Mahle gets the first shot at the champions and he will be opposed by Max Fried in what could be a solid pitching matchup. Fried (+1200) is tied for the sixth-best odds to win the National League Cy Young Award while teammate Charlie Morton’s odds are +1800.

The Braves start the season as a favorite in the MLB picks.

Atlanta Braves (+1100) is tied for the fifth-best odds to have the best record in MLB. Cincinnati (+20000) is tied for the 22nd-best odds.

Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Reds vs Braves. We’ve plenty of  MLB predictions.

Reds Hoping Young Hitters Ready to Break Out

The first name that comes to mind when the Cincinnati Reds are mentioned is former National League Most Valuable Player Joey Votto. However, when it comes to the success of the 2022 season, the emergence of the young hitters with the Reds will be a key.

Outfielder Nick Senzel played just 61 games over the last two seasons but if his performance in the spring is any indication, the former No. 2 overall pick could be ready for a breakout season.

He will be joined by catcher Tyler Stephenson and infielder Jonathan India as hitters in their mid-20s who are being counted on for some big things. Mason Schrock hit .600 in the spring.

Tyler Mahle is coming off a 13-6 season while Nick Lodolo and Rookie of the Year candidate Hunter Greene should be key parts of the rotation. The Reds could have a chance to compete for a playoff spot.

The Las Vegas odds total has gone over in six of Cincinnati’s last nine games.

Defending Champions Seek Encore

What a run it was for the Atlanta Braves all the way to a World Series title.

Many of the familiar names are back in what could be one of the top lineups in baseball, especially when Acuna returns to action. Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, Dansby Swanson, Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall give the Braves plenty of proven hitters.

The one big change came at first base as Atlanta brought in Matt Olson to replace team leader Freddie Freeman, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Olson enjoyed a solid spring.

Fried and Morton will lead the rotation and the hope is to get Mike Soroka back at some point. Bryce Elder was impressive in his first two spring starts while Ian Anderson was not.

Repeating as champions is no easy task but the Braves certainly have enough pieces to be in contention for another playoff run.

The MLB betting online total has gone under in five of the Braves’ last seven games.

Reds vs Braves Head-to-Head

Atlanta won six of the last nine matchups with Cincinnati, although the Reds won the most recent meeting on Aug. 12, 2021, by a score of 12-3 at Atlanta.

Something to consider for those who bet online: After four straight games between the Reds and Braves finished with a combined total of five runs or less, the last two meetings have produced 29 runs scored, including 18 by the Reds.

Atlanta had won five straight games at home against Cincinnati before dropping the most recent matchup.

Reds vs Braves Prediction

The Braves will get a chance to reflect on the amazing run to the World Series title but then it is time to turn the focus on the 2022 season. Fried will look to get the Braves off to a strong start against a Cincinnati team with plenty of young but unproven hitters.

It will be a weird feeling for Atlanta fans not seeing the popular Freeman in the middle of the batting order and playing first base, but Olson should be able to fill that void as the Braves begin the quest for a second title in a row.

The Braves are favored in the MLB picks and should be able to get the season off to a strong start in the series against the Reds.

Pick: Atlanta Braves -175
