Brewers Can’t Stumble Against Lowly Reds
The Milwaukee Brewers once led the National League Central and looked like they might ease their way into the playoffs. However, the St. Louis Cardinals have taken off like a rocket ship while the Brewers have struggled.
The Brewers enter Friday eight games back in the NL Central and 2½ games back in the Wild Card race. While the division seems out of reach, a Wild Card berth is possible – as long as they don’t fumble opportunities versus the Cincinnati Reds.
The Reds have the third-worst record in the National League at 55-80 but have won three out of their last four games. Can they play spoiler and cash on the MLB betting odds?

Lodolo Heading to Mound for Reds
Cincinnati is starting Nick Lodolo against the Brewers and he’s pitched well. He’s 3-5 with a respectable 3.95 ERA, but the Reds have lost their last three games that he’s started.
His recent performance on Sunday saw him go six scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies but the team still lost 8-4.
To make matters worse for the Cincinnati Reds, Lodolo has yet to win on the road. He is currently 0-3 with an ugly 6.75 ERA away from home.
He faced the Brewers once earlier this season and lasted just 4.2 innings. He was in constant trouble, giving up four hits, four walks and three runs. Christian Yelich was 3-for-4 in that game. He’s batting .278 over the last week with four runs and three RBIs.
Brewers Look to Nab Third Straight
The Brewers will counter with Jason Alexander and he’s 2-2 with a shaky 5.03 ERA. He’s not had the best track record when it comes to helping the Brewers win.
Taking a look back at his last nine starts, the Milwaukee Brewers have won just two of them.
He pitched 5.2 innings against the Reds earlier in the year and was lucky to allow just three runs as he gave up eight hits. The Reds are batting .243 over their last 10 games, though, so it’s not as if he’s going up against a murderer’s row lineup.
If you bet online, note that the pitching matchup makes this more of a toss-up than you might think given the 18-game difference in the win column between the teams.

Reds vs Brewers Prediction
If you’re thinking about your MLB picks, obviously the first thought will be to lean to the Brewers. They’re at home, they need this game as they fight for a playoff spot and they’re the better team.
However, the pitching matchup makes this a bit dicey. The Brewers are favored in the sportsbook, but the over is what makes more sense.
Neither pitcher offers tremendous confidence. Lodolo is winless on the road while Alexander has lost seven out of the last nine games.
If you have to pick a side, go with the Brewers as they’ve been the better team for most of the year. They have won eight out of 12 total matchups and could take this upcoming one even if they don’t get off to a hot start pitching.
