Picks, Prediction for Reds vs Cubs on Saturday, May 27
The Chicago Cubs have a tough road toward evening up their series due to a major mismatch on the mound. The Cubs are slowly falling apart, with 9 losses in their last 12 games and four wins at home in May. The Reds are 3-6 in their last nine and fighting to avoid falling into last place in the NL Central.
The MLB odds list the Reds as heavy favorites despite a starting pitcher with an ERA above 8.00.
Reds Dominate Series Opener
The Reds don’t often have much to celebrate, but Friday’s victory in the series opener was an exception. It was the third win in a row against the MLB spread and set them up for a repeat performance.
With a win, the Reds would leapfrog the Cubs and, depending on what the Cardinals do, could land in third place behind the Pirates.
Cubs Off Back-to-Back Losses
The Cubbies are in a 3-7 rut and one loss away from falling into last place in the NL Central on Saturday.
From an MLB betting standpoint, the Cubs are a winning team at home with a 14-12 record against the spread. In their last ten games, Chicago is 6-4 ATS with a return on investment of 32.89%.

Brandon Williamson steps up to make his third career start for the Reds, hoping to bounce back after a rough second appearance. Williamson allowed four runs and four walks in 4⅓ innings to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, though the Reds eked out a win in extra innings. The rookie could have another tough game ahead as the Cubs rake vs. LHP with a .281 BA and .815 OPS.
Conversely, Jameson Taillon has been a total mess for the Cubbies. Chicago hasn’t won one of his seven starts, and Taillon’s ERA in May is up to 12.08. I’m wondering why he hasn’t yet been sent down in favor of any number of young arms the Cubs have in their farm system. He’s allowed twice as many hits as innings pitched in May and is not a guy to trust with your MLB picks.
Reds vs Cubs Head-to Head
The Reds own a 2-1 season series lead after Friday’st win and are 2-1 against the spread as underdogs on the MLB lines. Including last season, the Cubs are 13-9 against the spread. The Over/Under in that span is 12-6-3, including four straight OVER wins.
