The teams will try again on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia when Braves ace Spencer Strider matches up with Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler.

Beyond being in the National League East division and building a rivalry through that, these teams also met in the playoffs last season. In the NL Division Series, the Phillies won the series 3-1, ending a fantastic season for the Braves, who finished with the most wins in the league (104).

Braves vs Phillies Moneyline Pick: Braves (-125)

After winning the World Series in 2021, it felt like the Braves were in for another title in 2023, with the potential to lay the groundwork for a dynasty. They finished with a 104-58 record, winning the NL East for the seventh straight year and having a 14-game lead over the second-place Phillies.

It makes sense that early MLB predictions are slotting the Braves into another big season. They are currently -245 favorites to win the NL East for the eighth straight time. A big reason is that most of the players from last season’s roster are back, headlined by reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr., who has a solid chance to go back-to-back.

There is no better opponent to start a season against with a World Series on your mind than a division rival that has eliminated you from the playoffs the last two years. The Braves will again feel like locks in MLB playoff odds for 2024, and rightly so, given the franchise’s recent success, but the Phillies are definitely going to try to challenge for the division.

On the other hand, the Phillies’ last two seasons have ended great, but they did not start out that way. While ithe Phillies made the World Series in 2022 and were a game away last season, the team got off to a slow start in both years. That could happen again, starting with a loss to the Braves in the opener.

Over/Under Pick: Under 7½ Runs (-130)

This is the season’s first game, and pitchers, especially these two elite starters, could have the advantage. Both teams have heavy-hitting lineups, with powerful bats from the top to the bottom, but these starters are also options in MLB odds to be CY Young finalists.

Despite all the big names in the lineups, the pitchers could dominate the headlines. Strider and Wheeler will want to have big games in their first time out this season. On top of that, with it likely being a close game, both managers could use their best arms from the bullpen to try to get an opening win.

Player Prop Pick: Ronald Acuna Jr. Over 0.5 Runs+RBIs (-140)

Acuna is the reigning NL MVP and has cemented himself as one of the faces of baseball. BetUS had him as the favorite to repeat as the MVP in 2024, with odds at +500. Last season, he hit 41 home runs with 106 RBIs and added 73 stolen bases, making history. There is a good chance he starts this season hot once again, which should lead to him being a part of any scoring opportunities the Braves will have against the Phillies.

Braves vs Phillies Score Prediction

Questions of the Day

Do the Braves have what it takes to win the World Series 2024?

After back-to-back 100+ win seasons, the Braves’ expectations are no longer to win the NL East but to make the World Series. The talent is there, but the playoffs are what matters to this team.

Can the Phillies pull off an upset and win the NL East?

It will be hard for the Phillies to win the NL East, mainly because of the Braves, but they have a chance due to their star-studded roster.
