Milwaukee Slumping Entering Second Half

 Brewers on Three-Game Skid

The Milwaukee Brewers try to snap a three-game losing streak as they open the second half of the 2022 season with a four-game series against the visiting Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Milwaukee dropped the final three games of its series against the host San Francisco Giants before the All-Star break, cutting their lead in the National League Central to just a half-game over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals.

Colorado had its five-game winning streak snapped in its final game before the break, a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and is in fourth place in the NL West. Before you make your bet online on this contest, make sure you read our in-depth preview of the game.

Let’s check the latest MLB news, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Rockies vs Brewers. We’ve plenty of MLB picks & predictions.

Rockies Hope to Stay Hot

The Colorado Rockies were putting things together just before the All-Star break, winning five of six games, and they’re hoping that continues after some days off. The road hasn’t been kind to Colorado as it enters this series with a 15-27 record away from Coors Field.

First baseman C.J. Cron has been the top hitter for the Rockies, pacing the team with 21 home runs and 69 RBIs. The All-Star is batting .298 with 21 doubles, two triples and 55 runs scored as well.

Shortstop Jose Iglesias is batting .301, ranking 18th in the majors. Iglesias has 20 doubles, three home runs, 34 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Right-hander Antonio Senzatela will get the start to begin the weekend series. Senzatela is 3-5 with a 4.95 ERA in 13 starts, striking out 34 in 60 innings of work. He’s coming off a stint on the injured list due to a shoulder injury to make this start, his first since July 1. In that game, he took the loss after going just two innings before his shoulder was bothering him, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one and walking one.

Brewers Eye More Success at Home

The Milwaukee Brewers’ end to the first half of the season was not good, as they dropped eight of their last 11 games, including four of six on a road trip just before the break. They now open the second half of the season with a six-game homestand, though they’re just 21-19 at American Family Field .

Right-hander Corbin Burnes will be on the mound for the series opener, bringing a 7-4 record and 2.14 ERA, which ranks fifth in the majors. Burnes is also fourth in baseball with 144 strikeouts in 113.2 innings. Burnes is 1-0 with a 0.89 ERA in three July starts. He was picked for the National League All-Star team but decided not to participate to get some rest for the second half of the season.

“With where we’re at in the season – I’m on pace to throw almost 200 innings – we’re able to work in a break,” Burnes said of his decision. “This was one of those things that, the more we talked about it and debated it, I just want to make sure I emphasize the recovery part of it and that the body feels good, so that I’m good to go Friday when the second half starts.”

Shortstop Willy Adames leads the Brewers with 19 home runs, just one off his career high that he accomplished twice, including last season. Adames is batting .220 with 14 doubles, 51 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

First baseman Rowdy Tellez is just one home run behind Adames and leads Milwaukee with 57 RBIs. Tellez is batting .227 with 17 doubles and 35 runs scored, and he had a home run in the Brewers’ last game before the break.

Rockies vs Brewers Head-To-Head

The Milwaukee Brewers are hoping to have the same kind of success against the Colorado Rockies as last season, when they took five of the seven meetings between the clubs. Milwaukee was 3-0 at home against Colorado in 2021.

Colorado split its series at American Family Field in 2019, with the teams not playing in 2020. The MLB lines for Friday’s series opener are giving the edge to the host Brewers with Burnes on the mound.
