Battle To Stay Out of NL West Basement
The Colorado Rockies go for a second straight win when they face the host Arizona Diamondbacks in the finale of a three-game series on Sunday. Colorado took the second game of the series on Saturday to move within a game of the fourth-place Diamondbacks in the NL West standings. Arizona has lost two of three. These two teams have gone back and forth this season, so before you do your betting online, check out our in-depth preview of the series finale.
McMahon Heating Up To Power Rockies
Third baseman Ryan McMahon hasn’t had the season he’d hoped for after signing a new deal with the Colorado Rockies in the offseason, but he’s starting to show some of the talent that warranted that contract. McMahon had the go-ahead home run on Saturday night in the Rockies’ win over the Arizona Diamondbacks after he drove in five runs in a win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday.
“The organization invested in you, so you want to be good for your teammates and help the club win,” McMahon said after Saturday’s win. “I haven’t done what I think I’m capable of this season, but there’s still a lot of season left.”
McMahon is batting .242 this season, hitting 17 doubles, three triples and 10 home runs, driving in 50 runs and scoring 40 times.
Outfielder Randal Grichuk continued his hot streak at the plate, going 1-for-4 and driving in a run for the second straight game.
Right-hander Jose Urena will get the start on Sunday, bringing a 1-3 record and 4.66 ERA to the mound. Urena has 20 strikeouts in 38⅔ innings over six starts and 10 total appearances this season. He took a no-decision in his last outing, throwing four innings against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one and walking three.
Diamondbacks Unable To Get Consistent Effort
The Arizona Diamondbacks started the second half of the season with five wins in six games, but after that fast start, they haven’t been able to put together two wins in a row, going 2-6.
Right-hander Zach Davies will try to put them back on the winning track. Davies is 2-4 with a 4.28 ERA, striking out 63 in 82 innings. He had a difficult outing in his last start, going against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday and allowing four runs on three hits in just two innings, striking out one and walking two.
Outfielder Daulton Varsho had a home run for the second straight game on Saturday. First baseman Christian Walker drove in a run and went 2-for-4 at the plate in Saturday’s loss.
Rockies vs Diamondbacks Head-To-Head
The Colorado Rockies maintained their slight edge in the season series with Saturday’s win, as they have a 7-5 advantage. Colorado has won five of the nine games played at Chase Field in 2022.
Colorado has won or tied the season series each year since 2018, with only a 5-5 tie in 2020 keeping them from being on a four-season streak of winning the season series. A glance at the MLB lines for Sunday’s game shows the bookmakers believing in the host team to come away with the win.

Both of these teams have shown some spark at times this season, but they haven’t been able to be consistent with their efforts. We like the Arizona Diamondbacks to bounce back with a win over the Colorado Rockies in the finale of this series between division rivals.
