Dodgers Look To Increase NL West Lead

Dodgers Have Best Record In NL

The Los Angeles Dodgers go for a second straight win against the visiting Colorado Rockies Tuesday night when the NL West rivals continue their three-game Dodger Stadium series. LA used a four-run fifth inning to secure a 5-3 win in Monday’s opener. It was the Dodgers’ 50th win of the season, increasing their division lead to 4½ games over the second-place San Diego Padres. Colorado had a two-game win streak snapped with the loss Monday, remaining last in the West. Read our in-depth preview of Tuesday’s contest before you bet online.

Rockies Drop Opener

The Colorado Rockies did not make it easy on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the series opener Monday night, scoring a pair of runs in the ninth inning to make the game a little closer. Charlie Blackmon and C.J. Cron each drove in a run in the ninth, and Colorado had two men on base at the time of the final out

Cron had a solo home run to lead off the ninth inning, his 20th of the season. The first baseman is batting .297 with 17 doubles, two triples, 65 RBIs (tied for second in baseball) and 49 runs scored. There’s also a current nine-game hit streak as well.

Blackmon only had one plate appearance Monday evening, but extended his hitting streak to seven with an RBI single. Blackmon is batting .272 with 14 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 45 RBIs and 42 runs scored.

Righthander German Marquez will make his 16th start of the season Tuesday night, now his third against the Dodgers. Marquez is 4-6 with a 5.89 ERA, striking out 70 in 84 innings. Marquez is 0-1 against Los Angeles this season, a loser Wednesday. Marquez went just 3⅓ innings, having surrendered five runs on five hits-including a home run-fanning two and walking three.

Dodgers’ New Addition

The Los Angeles Dodgers already had a roster that’s stacked, but with injuries hitting, they acquired outfielder Trayce Thompson from the Detroit Tigers in a June 20 trade. Thompson has already made an impression, belting a three-run home run in Monday’s win over the Colorado Rockies.

“He’s come on immediately and made an impact,” manager Dave Roberts said of Thompson after Monday’s win. “Trayce was here to hit left-handed pitching and play good defense and that’s what he’s done.”

Thompson is batting .224 with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and five runs scored, much of that production coming with Los Angeles. Thompson did begin the season with the San Diego Padres, then was released, signed by the Tigers, who eventually traded him to the Dodgers.

Outfielder Mookie Betts, who returned this past Sunday, is showing no signs of the rib injury that kept him out a little over two weeks. In two games since returning, Betts is 3-for-7 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Betts is batting .278 in 2022, 15 doubles,17 home runs, adding 41 RBI and scoring 55 times.

LA will have righty Mitch White making the Tuesday start. White is 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA in six starts (11 appearances) this season, striking out 33 in 34⅓ innings. He was solid in his latest start, going 4⅔ innings against the San Diego Padres last Thursday (one run, six hits, three strikeouts and walking one).

Rockies vs Dodgers Head-To-Head

The Colorado Rockies have held their own against the team with the top record in the National League this season. The Rockies won four of the first seven meetings with the Dodgers. Colorado hasn’t won the season series against Los Angeles since the 2017 campaign  having finished 10-9.

Los Angeles has been very good at home against the Rockies, 26-9 at Dodger Stadium vs. since the start of 2017. The MLB lines suggesting that trend is continues, with the Dodgers getting a major edge in the market.

Rockies vs Dodgers Prediction

The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing as well as anyone, and their pitching has been solid. That’s not good news for the inconsistent Colorado Rockies, who end on the short side.

In MLB picks, take Los Angeles to pick up the home win.
