Colorado’s Struggles Continue
In two games of this series, the Colorado Rockies scored a total of five runs. That’s what the Los Angeles Dodgers scored in each of those same two contests. Colorado had eight hits in the 5-2 setback Tuesday, but was 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and stranded six.
Outfielder Kris Bryant hit his first home run of the season in just his 24th game with the Rockies. The former NL MVP hadn’t hit a home run since September 2021, but he’s 10-for-29 since coming off the injured list a week ago. Bryant is batting .294 with five doubles, six RBIs and 16 runs scored.
Shortstop Jose Iglesias had an RBI and extra-base hit for the second consecutive game, driving in a run with a double. Iglesias is batting .293 with 17 doubles, two home runs, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
Righthander Jose Urena takes the mound for the final game, making his first appearance for the team since a minor league deal in May. Urena had four relief appearances for the Milwaukee Brewers this season before being released (0-0, 3.52 ERA in 7⅔ innings).
It’s Been Dodger Black and Blue
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been rolling for much of 2022, despite losing key players to injury along the way. So, while Mookie Betts hit his first home run Tuesday night since sitting out with an injured rib, LA now has to compensate for the absence of outfielder Chris Taylor and a fractured foot. It’s the left one, for those wondering.
Another player back from injury who’s starting to shine is outfielder Max Muncy. Muncy did score three times in Tuesday’s win over Colorado. He was out with an elbow problem earlier in the season, but a month after returning, he has again had an impact.
“I felt more like myself. The at-bat quality has been a lot better,” Muncy said. “Keeping a healthy head and a healthy elbow as well. I feel like I’m really hitting the ball really, really hard.”
Muncy is batting just .171 with seven doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 25 RBIs, and 32 runs scored in 64 games.
LA will have righthander Mitch White making the start in the final game, given an extra day’s rest from his expected Tuesday start. White is 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA in six starts (11 appearances) this season, striking out 33 in 34⅓ innings. He was solid in his last start, going 4⅔ innings against the San Diego Padres last Thursday. He surrendered just one run on six hits while striking out three and walking one.
Rockies vs Dodgers Head-To-Head
The Los Angeles Dodgers evened the season series with the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, and won the last three games between the teams. Los Angeles has won the last four-season series against the Rockies, going 13-6 in 2021.
Los Angeles is now 27-9 at Dodger Stadium against Colorado since the start of 2017. It’s no surprise that the MLB lines for Wednesday’s game give the Dodgers an overwhelming advantage at home.
