Struggles On Road Continue For Rockies
The Colorado Rockies continue to have their troubles away from home, dropping to 5-8 as the visitor this season with Monday’s loss. Colorado’s .231 batting average on the road is 50 points lower than its batting average in the rare air at home.
First baseman C.J. Cron has been the team’s best at the plate this season, though he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the loss Monday. Cron is batting .300, and tied for the MLB lead with nine home runs. He’s also tied for fourth in baseball with 24 RBIs, adding seven doubles, a triple and 15 runs scored.
Shortstop Jose Iglesias raised his batting average to .329 with a 3-for-4 night Monday, including two doubles, driving in one and scoring a pair of runs. Iglesias has eight doubles, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored in 24 games..
Right-hander Antonio Senzatela will be on the mound for the second game of the series. Senzatela has a 2-1 record and 3.75 ERA through five starts. He took a no-decision in his last outing, lasting 4⅓ innings against the Washington Nationals Thursday, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, one strikeout and two walks.
Starting To Find Giant Groove
The San Francisco Giants are getting themselves right back into the NL West race, winning three straight games while scoring 25 runs over that time. Players like Mauricio Dubon are contributing. Dubon had his second home run in three days in Monday’s win, after not having a round-tripper since June of last season.
“Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been hitting the ball hard right at people, and they’re either dying at the warning track or right at somebody’s chest,” Dubon said after Monday’s win. “Lately, I’ve been finding holes.”
Dubon went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored Monday night. He’s batting .244 with a double, eight RBIs and nine runs scored.
Second baseman Wilmer Flores was 1-for-4 with a run scored in Monday’s victory. He is leading the Giants with 19 RBIs, batting .270 with six doubles, three home runs and 15 runs scored.
Left-hander Alex Wood will make the start in Tuesday’s contest. The 31-year-old is 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA in five starts this season. He’s struggled a bit of late, allowing 10 earned runs over his last three starts.
