Pitching Struggles Hurting Rockies
The Colorado Rockies have had their troubles on the mound of late, giving up an average of 10.3 runs over the past three games, which included two losses. The Rockies allowed 16 runs in Wednesday’s loss to the Texas Rangers, allowing eight extra-base hits in the setback.
Right-hander Ryan Feltner will be on the mound for Thursday’s series opener. Feltner is 2-4 with a 5.88 ERA in 11 starts and 12 overall appearances, striking out 49 in 56.2 innings. He took a no-decision in his last outing, going six innings against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday and allowing one run on two hits while striking out five and walking two.
Third baseman Ryan McMahon was 0-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday’s loss. He’s batting .324 in the month of August with four doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Outfielder Connor Joe had an RBI single on Wednesday, finishing 1-for-4 at the plate. The Rockies’ leadoff hitter is batting .243 with 19 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 26 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
Mets Derailed in Subway Series Showdown
The New York Mets took on their cross-town rival New York Yankees in a matchup of division leaders this week, but they came away with a pair of losses that has them hoping for another shot at the Bronx Bombers down the line. Both teams are among the favorites to come out of their respective leagues to get to the World Series, something the Mets would love to see happen.
“We hope that we do the things it takes to get a chance to hopefully come back to this place,” Mets manager Buck Showalter said after Tuesday’s loss.
Outfielder Starling Marte was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Tuesday’s loss. Marte is batting .295 with 23 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 56 RBIs and 71 runs scored.
First baseman Pete Alonso was 2-for-4 at the plate on Tuesday, breaking his mini-slump that saw him go 1-for-15 over the previous four contests. Alonso is batting .270 this season with 23 doubles, 30 home runs, 102 RBIs and 71 runs scored.
Right-hander Jacob deGrom will make his fifth start in Thursday’s series opener. DeGrom is 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA, striking out 37 in 23.1 innings. He’s coming off his first loss of the season on Aug. 18 against the Atlanta Braves, in which he allowed three runs on five hits over 6.2 innings, striking out nine and walking none.
Rockies vs Mets Head-To-Head
The New York Mets are looking for their third straight season series victory against the Colorado Rockies. New York took two of three at Coors Field in May. The Mets were 5-2 against the Rockies in 2021 and 4-2 against them in 2019, with the two teams not playing each other in the shortened 2020 campaign.
Playing at home hasn’t been a problem for the Mets, as they are 5-2 against Colorado at Citi Field since the start of the 2019 season. A look at the MLB lines for this contest shows New York as a heavy favorite to open the series with a victory.
