Rays Chasing Top Wild Card
The Tampa Bay Rays opened an eight-game homestand by destroying the Kansas City Royals 7-1 on Thursday night. Tampa Bay scored its fifth win in six games. The only loss during that stretch was against the New York Yankees, a game the Rays were up 7-4 entering the bottom of the 10th.
The Rays are one game behind Seattle for the top wild card in the American League. Meanwhile, the defeat was their fourth straight and sixth in seven games for Kansas City.
Taking a look at the MLB betting odds, the Royals are again a big underdog. Are they worth a flier or will the Rays cash for those who bet online?
Royals Sending Singer to Mound
Kansas City is certainly hoping that they can avoid a repeat of Thursday against the Rays. Brady Singer will be getting sent to the mound and he’s been effective, going 6-4 with a 3.29 ERA.
Singer has been excellent in his last four appearances. The Royals have won just two of those games, but he pitched in 26.1 innings and allowed just five runs during that span.
That might lead you to consider the under for your MLB picks. The Rays are batting just .222 over their last 10 games and Randy Arozarena, one of the team’s best hitters, is matching that same mark in that span.
McClanahan Aims to Keep Rays Rolling
Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Shane McClanahan has proven to be one of the league’s most dynamic pitchers and he’ll get the nod in this one. McClanahan is 11-5 with the fifth-best ERA in the league at 2.28.
He’s also tied for the sixth-most strikeouts at 165 and the second-best WHIP at 0.87. Statistically, he’s been phenomenal.
When he’s pitching at home, Tampa Bay tends to win. He’s holding onto a 9-3 record with a sparkling 2.37 ERA at Tropicana field. The Rays have continued to be competitive with McClanahan on the mound and that isn’t expected to change in this game.

Royals vs Rays Prediction
Singer has been getting stronger as the season progresses. He’s been excellent in the last couple of games. When you pitch 26.1 innings across four games, allow just five runs and still lose two of them, you need more help.
Unfortunately, he’s yet to get that consistently while the Rays have rallied around McClanahan’s stellar pitching.
Tampa Bay as a whole has performed better as of late also, which makes starting its All-Star pitcher that much better. If you’re looking at the side, roll with the Rays in this one.
However, this is a lot of juice to lay in this spot, so consider betting the under. There are two good pitchers on the mound and both teams are laboring at the plate.
