Padres Living Up To Preseason Promise
San Diego has won nine straight including an emphatic 9-2 smackdown of Seattle on Sunday night. Superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. homered twice, including a 447-foot grand slam, and drove in six runs to lead the Padres to the win.
“Get a good pitch and just put the barrel on it. Simple as that,” Tatis said about his mindset with the bases loaded. Tatis added a 441-foot solo jack into the second deck in left field leading off the second and singled in the go-ahead run during the three-run sixth.
The Padres have scored five runs or more in seven of its last nine games while putting up nine runs or more in three of those victories. Southpaw starter Blake Snell takes the mound on Monday night. The 2018 AL Cy Young winner limited Colorado to one run on five hits in six innings with 11 strikeouts in his last start on Tuesday.
Brewers Looking To Tame San Diego’s Hot Bats
Milwaukee has won two straight after dropping its previous three games. The Brewers pounded Cincinnati en route to a commanding 9-4 win on Sunday night. Christian Yelich hit a 440-foot blast to straight-away center field for his first homer of the season and Kolten Wong had three hits with two runs scored and two RBI.
“I’m still trying to find it,” Yelich said. “But I hope it’s a step in the right direction. Will have to wait and see.”
The Brewers have scored at least four runs in four consecutive games while going 5-2 over their last seven games when they put at least that many runs on the scoreboard. On Monday night, Brandon Woodruff gets the start. The right-hander limited Kansas City to two runs (one earned) in 7.2 innings on Tuesday with four strikeouts and two walks.
Blake Snell Total Strikeouts
Over 6.5 Strikeouts -150 || Under 6.5 Strikeouts +120
Prediction: Snell struck out 11 in his last start and has struck out at least seven batters in four of his last six starts overall. This one looks like a virtual lock to me. Snell tops his O/U strikeout total on Monday night.
Pick: Over 6½ Strikeouts (-150)
Fernando Tatis Total Home Runs
Home Runs Over ½ +350 || Under ½ -500
Prediction: Without getting into a ton of statistics, I’m banking on the red-hot Tatits to hit another jack after going ‘yard’ twice on Sunday. Tatis has 13 homers this season in only 110 at-bats. Bet the over here at a stunning +350 to cash in big if Tatis goes deep.
Pick: Over ½ Home Run (+350)
The Padres are 10-1 in their last 11 games following a win and 20-7 in their last 27 games overall. Milwaukee is 6-1 in its last seven games against teams from the NL West, but just 6-13 in its last 19 games and 2-5 in its last seven home games.
San Diego has lost four straight against Milwaukee, but I like the Padres to snap that skid by getting the emphatic win on Monday night. Blake Snell is about as good as it gets while Brandon Woodruff is good, but certainly not great.
