Tigers vs Diamondbacks Picks

Tigers Starting To Put Things Together

The Detroit Tigers haven’t won three games in a row since the beginning of June, but they’re hoping to do just that with a victory on Sunday. Detroit’s offense has been scoring some runs in this series, and on Saturday, it was Kody Clemens providing the power with a three-run home run, his first in the majors.

“It was great,” Clemens said after Saturday’s win. “As soon as I hit it I knew it had a chance, and as soon as I was about to go around first I saw it was going out and (Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Joe Mantiply) turned and looked up, and I showed some emotion there. I was pumped, especially it being kind of late in the game. A three-run homer was crucial for the team. It was just awesome.”

Clemens, the son of all-time great pitcher Roger Clemens, had been struggling, batting just .125 entering Saturday’s game. It was his first game in the lineup since June 19.

Shortstop Javier Baez was 2-for-4 with a run scored to end his three-game home run streak. Baez is batting .221 with 13 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Right-hander Beau Brieske will get the call for the Tigers, bringing a 1-6 record and 4.07 ERA. The 24-year-old rookie is 1-2 with a 2.28 ERA in four June starts, though he struggled a bit in his last outing, allowing four runs in five innings against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

Diamondbacks’ Struggles at the Plate Continue

The Arizona Diamondbacks rank 29th in batting average at .213 and are tied for 24th with 290 runs. Power hasn’t been a problem, as the Diamondbacks are 11th with 84 home runs, but it’s putting together hits, as shown by the team going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position on Saturday night.

Outfielder David Peralta had a two-run home run to put the Diamondbacks on top early. Peralta is batting .236 with 14 doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 29 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

First baseman Christian Walker was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks in the loss. Walker leads the Diamondbacks with 19 home runs and 37 RBIs, but he has just four RBIs over the last 10 games.

Dallas Keuchel will make his Diamondbacks debut, as he is being called up after signing a minor league contract with the team earlier this month. The former Cy Young Award winner was 2-5 with a 7.88 ERA in eight starts with the Chicago White Sox before being released. The 34-year-old left-hander was 9-9 with the White Sox a season ago.

Tigers vs Diamondbacks Head-To-Head

The Detroit Tigers are looking for their first sweep in a season series against the Arizona Diamondbacks since they won all three games between the clubs in the 2004 season. The Diamondbacks won the season series the last time these teams played, taking three of four in the 2017 campaign.

Arizona has a 10-9 record at home against Detroit, though the Tigers have gone 5-2 in their last three series at Chase Field. As we look at the MLB lines for Sunday, the home team is expected to come out on top in the series finale.

Tigers vs Diamondbacks Prediction

The Detroit Tigers have been coming up with the big plays in this series thus far, but they’ll be facing a veteran hurler in Keuchel in the finale. The Arizona Diamondbacks need to give him some support, but they should have enough to pull out one victory in this series.
