Red Sox Surging
The Boston Red Sox came away with two wins in the first two games of the series against the visiting Detroit Tigers and and go for a sweep on Wednesday. The Red Sox have been one of the hottest teams in baseball and are seven games over .500 after winning seven of their last 10. Sitting 12½ games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East, a wild-card spot is much more likely for Boston.
The Detroit Tigers have been one of the worst teams in baseball and that’s evident by their 26-42 record. They’re already 11½ games behind the first-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central and have virtually no chance of making the playoffs.
Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Red Sox vs. Tigers. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Big Game for Boston
It’s tough to say that a random game in the middle of June is huge for the Boston Red Sox, but for a team that struggled and is looking to make the playoff, every game is going to be big. When also factoring in that there’s no excuse for them to lose the Detroit Tigers, it makes this one even bigger for them.
Michael Wacha is going to be on the mound here for Boston and he’s done a great job against the current Detroit Tigers lineup. He’s held hitters in the Tigers lineup to a .226 batting average and has a strikeout percentage over 20%. On the season, he’s also had elite stuff and comes into this one with a 2.28 ERA and a 5-1 record.
Tigers Going Nowhere
There’s a legitimate argument right now that the Detroit Tigers could potentially be the worst team in baseball. The Tigers have the 27th-worst batting average in baseball and also haven’t been able to do much on the mound. They currently have a 4.04 team ERA, which ranks 11th worst in the league.
Tarik Skubal is going to be on the mound and he’s been about the only bright spot for this team. He owns a 3.13 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. They might have a chance to win this game because of him, but it would be unlikely.
Tigers vs Red Sox Head-to-Head
These teams have met five times already in 2022 and the Red Sox have a 3-1 series lead.
