Picks, Prediction for Twins vs Astros on Tuesday, May 30

It took 10 innings to decide things in the series opener with the American League Central Division-leading Minnesota Twins coming away with the 7-5 win over the Houston Astros. The MLB picks favor Minnesota to make it back-to-back wins with Joe Ryan getting the start in the middle game of the three-game series.

Minnesota has the worst record of the six division leaders and joins the Milwaukee Brewers as the only division leader with a losing record on the road. Houston, the two-time defending AL West champions, is three games in back of first-place Texas.

Houston is first and Minnesota fifth in the majors in team ERA in May. Keep that in mind when it comes time to make MLB predictions. The teams combined for three home runs in Monday’s series opener.

When looking at MLB news, relief pitcher Emilio Pagan is questionable for Minnesota while shortstop Jorge Polanco could return in early June.

Outfielder Michael Brantley continues to be sidelined for Houston.

Welcome Back

Exactly a year after suffering a knee injury that ended his 2022 season, Minnesota infielder Royce Lewis made a triumphant return to the field. Lewis opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the third inning and then delivered the game-tying RBI single in the top of the ninth inning as the Twins rallied for a 7-5 win over Houston.

Lewis hit four home runs in 10 minor-league games to prove that he was ready to return to the majors.

Teammate Ryan Jeffers delivered the two-run home run in the top of the 10th that lifted Minnesota to victory.

The MLB odds total has gone under in six of the Twins’ last nine games.

Shaking the Rust Off

Minnesota isn’t the only team aided by the return of a previously injured infielder. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve didn’t make his season debut until May 19. After going hitless in his season debut, Altuve has hits in each of his last seven games.

Altuve’s lone hit on Monday was a big one as he delivered a grand slam in the seventh inning to give Houston a one-run lead. He has homered in back-to-back games and is batting .355 with a .645 slugging percentage. He would lead the American League in batting average and rank second in batting average if he had enough at-bats to qualify.

When making your bet online, consider the fact that nine of Houston’s last 12 games against American League teams went under the total.

Starting Pitchers

Joe Ryan (7-1, 2.21 ERA) vs Brandon Bielak (1-2, 3.55)

Ryan has allowed two runs or less in each of his five starts in May. He has a 1.55 ERA in May with 34 strikeouts in 29 innings. He allowed a season-high four runs in his first start of the season against the Astros, but still picked up the win back on April 8.

Bielak had allowed two runs or less in each of his first four appearances this season before surrendering five hits, three home runs and four runs in a 4-0 loss to Milwaukee the last time out. Bielak has allowed seven hits and three runs in nine innings in two games at home this season, which is something to keep in mind for MLB live betting options. This will be his first appearance against the Twins.

Twins vs Astros Head-to Head

Minnesota has won three of the last four meetings against Houston. The Twins are 3-4 in the last seven games in Houston.

Just one of the last 12 games between the Twins and Astros have been decided by one run.

The home team had won five straight games, but the road team has emerged victorious in the last two meetings.

Back-to-back games in the series haven’t gone over the MLB spreads total since 2019.

Twins vs Astros Betting Lines

Over/Under Pick

With Ryan pitching, it would be a smart move to go with the game to finish under the eight-run total even if the teams combined for 12 runs in the series opener. There were more than eight runs scored just twice in Ryan’s last six starts.

Houston has scored a total of seven runs in the last four games pitched by Bielak.

Pick: Under 8 (Ev)

Moneyline Pick

It is pretty hard to pick against the Twins whenever Ryan takes to the mound even if the Twins have struggled to string together wins on the road so far this season.

The Twins are priced at -113 to make it two wins in a row in this series.

Pick: Twins -113

Spread Pick

The teams played a one-run affair in the first meeting of the season. Could that happen again on Tuesday?

Going with the Astros at +1½ (-160) might be worth the risk. Plenty of money is coming in on the Astros to bounce back on Tuesday even if the Astros are just 11-15 against the spread at home this season.

Pick: Astros +1½ (-160)
