Minnesota Tries To Stay Perfect vs Oakland in 2022
The Minnesota Twins go for a third straight victory, opposing the host Oakland Athletics in the second of a three-game series Tuesday night. Minnesota took opener, 3-1, Monday night, and is atop the AL Central standings. Minnesota is three games ahead of the second-place Chicago White Sox. Oakland’s dropped its last three, residing at the bottom of the AL West. Before you make any decision regarding how to bet this online, read our in-depth preview of the second game of the series.
Winning Without Much Offense In Minnesota
The Minnesota Twins have won four straight against the Oakland Athletics in a season for the first time since 2007. This despite scoring just 10 runs in those games, including three in the series opener Monday night.
“They’ve been playing us very tough,” Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli said. “All these tight ball games, there’s no room to breathe in any of these games. They’ve been pitching very well against us all the way so far this year. You’ve got to play nine good innings against them the way they’ve been playing against us.”
Righthander Dylan Bundy will try to extend the run, making a sixth start of the season Tuesday. Bundy is 3-2 with a 5.76 ERA in his first season with the Twins, striking out 22 and walking five in 25 innings.
Bundy is coming off an ugly outing against the Baltimore Orioles on May 4, lasting just 3⅔ innings and allowing nine runs on 11 hits. He tested positive for COVID-19 after the game and is making his first start since.
Outfielder Byron Buxton had an RBI single in Monday’s contest, snapping his streak of two straight games with home runs. Buxton is tied for second in the majors with 11 home runs, adding five doubles, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored in 24 games.
Athletics Struggle To Win At Home
The Oakland Athletics dropped to just 5-13 at home with Monday night’s loss, compared to 10-10 on the road. Oakland’s lost four-of-five on its current homestand, which ends Wednesday.
The A’s have righthander James Kaprielian on the mound looking for his first win of the season. Kaprielian is 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA in three starts, striking out 10 in 12⅔ innings. A loser against the Minnesota Twins earlier this season in a hard-luck effort, Kaprielian went 5⅔ innings, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out seven and walking two in a 1-0 victory by the Twins.
Oakland managed just four hits in the opener, with shortstop Elvis Andrus responsible for two of those, as well as driving in the A’s only run. Andrus is batting .231 with six doubles, a home run, four RBIs and 11 runs scored.
Catcher Sean Murphy is on a cold streak, batting just .137 in May while hitless in his last five games. Leading the team with four home runs and 18 RBIs, but no homera and just four RBIs this month.
Twins vs Athletics Head-to-Head
The Minnesota Twins have clinched their first season series win with the Oakland Athletics since the 2015 campaign with four victories thus far. Minnesota dropped five of six, including all three on the road, against the Athletics in 2021.
Oakland’s never been swept in a season series by the Twins, either overall or in games played in Oakland. MLB lines are favoring Minnesota to come one step closer to achieving both of those feats with a Tuesday night win.
