Twins Atop Division
As the 2022 MLB season quickly approaches the All-Star break, the visiting Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox each have high hopes going into their Independence Day matchup. The Twins are in first place in the American League Central, a spot they’ve secured for nearly the entire season. But after an impressive road sweep, the White Sox are quickly making up ground.
Twins: Well-Rounded Attack
Based on the latest MLB playoff odds, it’s hard to remember that the Minnesota Twins finished at the bottom of the AL Central in 2021. But, after an aggressive offseason, the Twins find themselves atop the division by two games over the Cleveland Guardians.
While it’s not to the degree of their record-setting offense from 2019, Minnesota’s lineup is one of the better groups in baseball. Entering the week, the Twins rank 12th in runs, ninth in batting average and seventh in OPS. Their pitching has been the biggest surprise, though, ranking seventh in ERA and WHIP and ninth in opponent batting average.
Veteran righty Dylan Bundy will open up this series on the mound. The former top prospect is just 4-4 with a 4.71 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, though he’s managed to give up two earned runs or less in his last three starts.
White Sox Mounting Comeback
Following their surprising division title last season, betting on the Chicago White Sox became one of the more popular MLB picks. But the White Sox have been below .500 for the majority of the season, even after sweeping the San Francisco Giants over the weekend.
In winning four of their last five games, the White Sox have hit double-digit runs twice. As a whole, Chicago is still just 22nd in runs and 25th in slugging percentage, although its batting average is the fifth-highest in baseball. On the mound, the White Sox are still just 20th and 23rd in ERA and WHIP, respectively, but fifth in total strikeouts.
Chicago will open this pivotal three-game series with Johnny Cueto on the bump. In his first season with the South Siders, the 36-year-old is 2-4 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, going five innings or more in each of his nine starts in 2022.
Twins vs White Sox Head-to-Head
This is only the second series of the season between the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox, though the first meeting was one the latter would love to forget. Minnesota swept the White Sox from April 22-24, with Bundy throwing five shutout innings in a 9-2 victory.
The Twins dominated the rivalry from 2017-20, winning 42 of 67 head-to-head matchups. However, Chicago exacted its revenge in 2021, going 13-6.

Twins vs White Sox Prediction
The Minnesota Twins may have the better record, but the MLB lines favor the home team. With Cueto on the bump, the Chicago White Sox are -122 favorites on the moneyline while the Twins are +112 underdogs.
Another option to bet online is the over/under. With two somewhat-hittable pitchers on the mound, the over/under is set at 9. To no surprise, the over is favored at -120.
Based on the overall stats, Minnesota has the edge. However, the White Sox have the better pitcher and some more momentum on their side. Even though Chicago is just 16-21 in its own stadium, it’s hard not to pick them on Monday.
