Washington Nationals Over/Under 84½ Wins

The Nationals can win 85 games in the division, but I think they will come up short. I do not have confidence in Stephen Strasburg and the bottom of this lineup. The NL East will blast the Nationals’ over this online betting season without these two pieces clicking.

The New York Mets

The New York Mets have taken some injury hits of late, but they are still in better shape than the Nationals. The Mets lost Carlos Carrasco for April because of a torn hamstring. Carrasco was going to be the third pitcher in the Mets rotation.

Carrasco is a reliable pitcher, but he is not Jacob deGrom. When Carrasco returns, he will be able to produce, so this injury does not scare me in any way.

The Mets also lost Seth Lugo because of a bone spur in his elbow. He had surgery five weeks ago, and he is about to begin a throwing program. Lugo should return in the first month of the season, so the bullpen will need to hold up without him on the roster.

The Mets could struggle in the first month of the season, but these two arms will be back in a blink of an eye. In July, Noah Syndergaard will return from Tommy John surgery, so this team is still my NL East frontrunner.

The Nationals play the Mets six times in April but do not face them at all in June. The schedule against New York does not favor the Nationals going over 85 wins, in my opinion.

The Atlanta Braves

The Braves could beat the Mets in the NL East. This team is complete, with its strength being a potent offense. The Braves’ weakness is that they do not have many strikeout pitchers.

Atlanta has a lot of contact pitchers, which is not bad when it’s Max Fried, Mike Soroka, and Charlie Morton.

The Braves are still going to need run support, but I think their offense is superior to Washington. Atlanta will beat the Nationals because of its offensive power, especially when the bottom of Washington’s rotation is on the hill.

The Rest of the NL East

The Nationals and the Phillies are comparable. Washington should split against Philadelphia, but you should watch out for Miami.

The Marlins are not a team that should win more than 70 games, but they will make every team earn victories. If they steal some wins against Washington, it should help the Nationals stay under their win total.

The Washington Nationals

If Strasburg does not stay healthy, I do not believe Washington will be able to compete. Strasburg is known for injuries, and he has already gotten hurt in spring training.

Jon Lester and Joe Ross are going to have trouble at the bottom of the rotation. The starting pitching could end up being Washington’s most significant weakness in 2021.
