White Sox Find Runs Hard To Come By in Loss

The Chicago White Sox had no trouble scoring runs on Saturday, routing the Minnesota Twins 13-0 for their fourth straight win. But on Sunday, Chicago’s fortunes turned dramatically, as it managed just one run on seven hits in a 5-1 setback against Minnesota.

Outfielder AJ Pollock drove in the team’s lone run of the game with an RBI double. Pollock is on a seven-game hitting streak and batting .241 with 23 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 46 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus was 2-for-4 with a double in the loss and is batting .290 in 15 games with the White Sox this season. Andrus was released by the Oakland Athletics after batting .237 in 106 games with them, and Chicago was more than happy to sign him for the stretch run.

Right-hander Lance Lynn will be on the mound. The 35-year-old is 4-5 with a 4.70 ERA, striking out 91 in 84⅓ innings. He’s coming off a win against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in which he went seven innings and allowed one run on four hits while striking out eight and walking none.

Mariners Rolling Toward Ending Playoff Drought

The Seattle Mariners are winning games in nearly every manner possible these days, including taking a marathon victory from the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. The finale of the teams’ weekend series was delayed by rain for four hours and 33 minutes, so the final out wasn’t recorded until 11:01 pm ET, forcing the Mariners to hustle to get to the airport for their charter flight home.

What a long day,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said after Sunday’s win. “You sit here for about a four-hour delay. You don’t know what’s going to happen, how guys are going to respond. Give the Guardians a ton of credit. Obviously, they’re fighting for a playoff spot as well.

Shortstop J.P. Crawford drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the 11th inning, giving him an RBI in two straight games. Crawford is batting .252 with 21 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 35 RBIs and 52 runs scored.

Catcher Cal Raleigh stayed hot, hitting his fourth home run in five games in the 11th inning to add some insurance runs.

Left-hander Marco Gonzales is 10-12 with a 3.99 ERA, striking out 80 over 146 ⅔ innings. Gonzales has won his last three starts, allowing a total of five earned runs over a combined 17⅓ innings.

White Sox vs Mariners Head-To-Head

The Chicago White Sox have a 2-1 lead in the season series against the Seattle Mariners after winning a home series against the Mariners in April. Chicago is looking for its first season series win against Seattle since the 2016 campaign.

The two teams tied at three wins apiece in 2021, with the visiting team winning two of three in each venue. The MLB lines for Monday’s contest are giving the edge to the White Sox despite the hot play of the Mariners of late.

White Sox vs Mariners Prediction

The Chicago White Sox showed some fight over the weekend against the Minnesota Twins, but they’re taking on a hot team in the Seattle Mariners in this one. Seattle might be a little worn down after late-night traveling following Sunday’s win, but we still think it will have enough to pick up the victory.
