Padres Aim to Clinch Second Wild Card Spot in National League Against White Sox
Playoff Hopeful Padres Take On Eliminated White Sox
The Chicago White Sox recently got eliminated from playoff contention. They’ve been in a downward spiral as they fell into an eight-game losing streak, finally breaking out of it on Thursday by taking down the Minnesota Twins.
Now they take on the San Diego Padres with the hopes of impacting their playoff run. San Diego is a few wins away from clinching a Wild Card spot, but back-to-back losses against the Los Angeles Dodgers stalled their goal.
Which of these two teams can win on Friday and cash on the MLB betting odds?
Let’s check the latest MLB odds, stats, injury reports, and MLB lines for White Sox vs Padres. We’ve plenty of Vegas MLB odds for you to consider.
Chicago Rolling With Martin
After winning the American League Central last season, the expectation was that Chicago would be back in the playoffs in 2022. They started slow and never recovered, though, in what many will call a disappointing season.
Things have gone from bad to worse of late as they’re falling hard to end the season. They have dropped eight of nine as their offense has disappeared. They have managed just 18 runs in their last eight contests.
The White Sox are planning to start Davis Martin here; he’s compiled a 2-5 overall record so far with a 3.86 ERA to go with it. However, the team has won two of his last three starts.
There has been a clear disparity in his play from home compared to on the road, so keep that in mind if you bet online. With home-field advantage, Martin is 0-2 with a 5.16 ERA. On the road, he’s 2-3 with a 2.97 ERA.
The White Sox could be getting the better version of him for this matchup.
Darvish Hopes To Push Padres Into Postseason
With San Diego so close to getting that playoff spot, they will rely upon Yu Darvish to lead the charge on the mound against Chicago. They actually changed their pitching schedule around yesterday so that Darvish would be pushed back to today.
Darvish has been one of the most consistent pitchers. He’s posted the fourth-best record in the league at 16-7 and the 19th-best ERA at 3.05.
He’s been on an absolute roll lately, helping the Padres win the last six games that he’s appeared in on the mound and allowing just eight runs in the process. Darvish has pitched a shutout in three of those contests as well.
The Padres likely think this sets up well for a win for him.

White Sox vs Padres Prediction
Chicago certainly wants to keep the Padres out of the playoffs for a little longer with a win here. However, the pitching doesn’t seem like it adds up in their favor.
Martin has had good games throughout his limited time on the mound in 2022, but Darvish has been in a completely different league. The pitching difference gives San Diego the edge, and their overall talent and momentum just push them straight over.
It’s a big line here in the sportsbook, so be cautious. The Padres look like the right choice for your MLB picks on the side, but under could also work as we probably won’t see many runs.
