Picks, Prediction for White Sox vs Yankees on Thursday, June 8
Provided the air quality in New York City improves, the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will play a doubleheader on Thursday. The second game of their three-game series on Wednesday was postponed due to the smoke from wildfires in Canada that had engulfed the region and threatened to turn Thursday into another hazy, acrid mess.

White Sox Seeking Fifth Straight Win
Chicago is riding its longest winning streak of the year – a four-gamer – after taking the series opener 3-2 on Tuesday. It has ridden a solid stretch from its pitching staff, including six hitless innings from Lucas Giolito. All of the offense for the White Sox came from backup catcher Seby Zavala, who homered twice. Since opening 13-27, Chicago has gone 14-8. Consider that trend in the sportsbook.
Injuries Mounting (Again) for Yankees
Just as they were getting healthy last week with the returns of Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson, the Yankees lost superstar Aaron Judge and lefty Nestor Cortes, who will join the slugger on the IL due to a shoulder injury. Without Judge, New York managed just three hits in Tuesday’s loss. Without Cortes, the Yankees are forced to call up Randy Vasquez to start the nightcap on Wednesday.
Starting Pitchers
Mike Clevinger (3-3, 4.13 ERA) vs Randy Vasquez (0-1, 3.86)
Clevinger is coming off his third scoreless outing of the season with a five-inning effort against Detroit on Friday. He struck out six and tied a season-low with one walk. The 32-year-old has a 6.56 ERA over his last four road starts, something to keep in mind when making your MLB picks. On the flip side, he’s been tremendous in two prior career starts at Yankee Stadium, striking out 20 and allowing four hits in 12⅓ innings.This is the second time Vasquez has been called up for replacement duty. He also got the nod on May 26 against San Diego when Domingo German was still serving a 10-game suspension. Vasquez allowed two runs in 4⅔ innings in that one before being optioned back to the minors. According to Baseball America, the 24-year-old is the organization’s third-ranked pitching prospect. He is 1-6 with a 5.13 ERA for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
White Sox vs Yankees Head-to Head
Chicago entered the doubleheader having won three straight against New York. It hasn’t won four in a row over the Yankees since a six-game stretch between the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

That said, Clevinger figures to have some good stretches against a Yankees lineup that just isn’t the same without Judge.
